I think it would be really cool if we had a B/S/T section.

I know some of you guys have some cool older hardware you're not using!

We used to have one but the word is there were a lot of problems with it... but if you post something on eBay you can link it.

I haven't been here long but I have seen a couple thread like this. Most of them say there was one but to many dishonest people and they took it down.

We used to have one. It became a place to scam a bit too easily. If you'd like to sell something, ebay it and link here, which IS allowed.

Shame, really. But the staff didn't want to have to sort out conflicts between buyer/seller so it was removed.

yeah, we had some issues with people buying stuff, sending money, then not receiving the goods, they complained to the Staff, we didn't want to get caught up in the middle of anyone scamming others, so we don't have that section anymore, although we do allow ebay posts, so if you have something you would like to sell, just toss it up on ebay, and then you can post the link here, it saves us alot of trouble and people can still sell their goods.

Please ignore this post was 1 sentence. Thank you.

Naw, we definitely don't have the FS/FT forum anymore, and probably for a good reason. However, I do think it should be ok to have links to Craigslist. Though it doesn't really have any methods of scam-protection, any complaints couldn't be directed towards the admins here.

More also, I like the way Techpowerup handles their for sale/for trade forum (http://forums.techpowerup.com/forumdisplay.php?f=43).

Ahh, understandable.

I guess it does get hard to manage once a site gets so big. AtariAge is another place that has a great B/S/T section, even though that's for videogames.

I will admit, however, when we had a FS/FT forum it was pretty cool, 'cause if somebody got scammed they'd end up with a LOT of angry TBCSers with their IP addy (and shortly after, all kinds of other info).

It's better without it, though.

Exactly why we prefer ebay only. Craigslist would be at your own risk. I was here for the scam that ultimately took the trading post down. Let's just say that it was not pretty.

That's no lie, it was downright creepy how much personal info was so quickly obtained and posted. And yes, like SgtM was saying even though Craigslist can be cool and you can find some good deals there, it's absolutely rife with spam and cheaters due to it's lack of control. The reason ebay is allowed is because they have a very well developed system of dispute control and everything is handled elsewhere. Down the road I would like to set something up where some selling and trading can be done again but it won't be for a long time.

Alright, fine you all got me on the craigslist part, but what about have a trade/sell forum like techpowerup's? Read their FAQs: its a pretty solid system (as far as forum trading/selling goes).

Ah the good ol' days. Those were some fun times. I think that guy learned his lesson:bad:

This has come up a lot recently. I think if we added an eBay section, with a Featured/Sticky at the top with the rules, that people would understand that it was eBay only, and then we would have a good place to at least say that we were selling/looking-for something.

That's an idea.

jdbnsn
02-03-2008, 02:54 AM
We've just been using the hot hardware deals section for the ebay auctions. The rules should not be unknown, as they are in the rule book for the select few who have seen this exclusive section. 8)

Trading is not allowed on the boards. It is acceptable to make references to your eBay auction in the 'Hot Hardware Deals', but it is not acceptable to attempt to sell an item publicly through this website.

Yeah someone sold something and got scammed out of like 200 dollars. It would be nice to still have one.

The only reasons I'm so against ebay are these: I don't want to go through the hassle of setting all of shipping stuff, I don't want ebay taking a small percentage of my earnings and lastly you can barely put anything on your ad other than a very short description and a tiny picture.

Thats why I'm trying to suggest new ideas for For Sale/For Trade.

I understand that, and I have stopped using ebay as well for the same reasons. Mostly because that small percentage has become a sizable percentage and the post office has also chimed into the fact that they can salvage their losses from email killing the stamp by overcharging for shipping. The new size measurement system conveniently set margins just below the standard size of the most commonly sold items. The DVD I sold cost $8 to ship and ultimately cost me $2 to give the DVD away, it would have saved me money to throw it in the trash. But we are not ready to open up to trading here yet and we may never be. That remains to be seen, as I said I'll keep it in mind and in the future when I get caught up on other projects I'll see if we can work it out. But for now, the rules remain.

Well, this is what we do. Somebody says that they have something to sell and people make offers here. When you settle on a price here, you go to ebay and start a closed auction and sell the item for a penny and then charge all the amount in the shipping. There would be no picture, but you should add the description of the item so that if there is an issue, it can be brought up with ebay. The person who agreed to buy it here signs on to ebay and buys your item. They pay, you ship. If either of the persons does not do their part, it goes to eBay to solve the issue. That's what I feel would be the best way.

we may do something like that in the future, but like I said, not now. Please just stick to the rules on this for the time being and I promise I'll look into something for trading in the future. I can't promise when and I can't promise that it will happen because it's not my decision to make. Since this is Paul's website, it's his call if he wants trading in the forums. Cool?

Nah it's cool man, I do like to hear suggestion because a lot of the time they are really good ideas. That's what alot of this site was built on, suggestions and requests. And I will try to work this out but I just have so much on my plate that has to be done first that I think it will be a while before I can address it. We'll work on it at some point though.

As for Paul, he's up to his ears trying to produce a series of video reviews of his silly BB guns by himself which is no small task. He'll be back, but he's swamped at the moment.

Oh you mean I can permaban!?!?!

Watch out fools! I honk my nose, stomp my clown shoes and you are all wearing fuzzy buttons on the front of your shirts...

BOT: I like the way overclock.net has handled their sale/wanted sections. Basically you must have at least 35 rep to post in the section and they also use a rep system just for trader's.

But again, this is too much to deal with for everyone involved.

jdbnsn
02-04-2008, 06:06 PM
That's a thought, though we are already considering a dual type rep system and I don't think three would lend well. But who knows, maybe it would but the postbit region would start too look like a graphic equalizer after a while...which might be cool. Another idea I have heard that might work okay is if we allowed direct trading on the forums we could hold the paypal payment as escrow for a tiny % fee which would help secure the transaction. It could still get a bit messy though if someone had to make a return and the shipping charges became an issue of debate.

Quakken
02-04-2008, 08:19 PM
So you would hold the paypal until the party got his stuff? That sounds pretty good to me. Especially if it is under the ebay % of cash. I would love this as I have a little bit of stuff I kind of want to get rid of and I would rather put it on here dirt cheap and get it out of my hair without having to go through ebay.

A dual rep system for trading would also be good.

yeah don't get me wrong, I'm just tossing out thoughts. So many other things have to come first before we can even think about doing this, but maybe someday.
