Well here is the current status of my new rig. This could not have happened if it were not for my wife loving me so much to let me do it. So first of the name of the case is old norse and the actual name for the hammer carried by Thor. Translated over it means "mealer" for the amount of damage done in battle. It seemed suiting as also it means a lot to me as it carries on a little family heritage. I am putting this under work in progress as there are some pieces left to polish and some pieces left to make. This is the progress thus far. So far I have made the cable cover to hide all the wires, successfully hidden the wires, and got the parts painted a very odd shade(thanks to my friend Rusty who works in a auto body shop) There will be more left to do on this case but I wanted to start sharing with you now....

BerticusPryme
02-06-2008, 02:33 AM
Well the start is the color scheme. next I am adding some runes to a few spots and then I am still deciding what etching I want to try and do for the other side on a window. Is till have quite a bit to go but I wanted to go ahead and get it up becasue some guys were getting antsy about pictures.

yeah i got two of them one is for my desk at work and the other is for my youngest I am holding in the last picture. She is going to grow up to be daddies little modder. When i was building the comp in the floor she was sitting beside me with a plastic hammer and screwdriver. she wanted to help so bad so I gave here an old laptop i had that is far beyond broken and she was content beating it with the hammer and typeing on it

Well now it all makes sense...... the Halo armor is called MJOLNIR armor. They must of made the refrence of the Master Chief being strong to Mjolnir meaning the strong hammer of Thor /geekrefrence

Give the man a prize!!! [hands clapping] I joke though, but you are exactly right about that being what it is named after.

Quote from http://halo.wikia.com/wiki/Mjolnir:
"It was designed by Dr. Catherine Halsey a civilian scientist in the employment of the UNSC Office of Naval Intelligence section three. The armor has undergone several incarnations during the many years of its development. The armor line is named for the mythical weapon Mjölnir, the hammer of the Æsir, weapon of Thor, the Norse god of lightning, thunder, wind, and rain. The origin for the word "Mjölnir" is unknown, though etymological speculation has provided theories for its literal translation. The Icelandic verbs mölva (to crush) and mala (to grind) have been suggested as possible translations. Another theory suggests that Mjolnir might be related to the Russian word молния (molniya) and the Welsh word mellt (both words being translated as "lightning"). This second theory parallels with the idea that Thor, being a god of thunder, therefore might have used lightning as his weapon.

Dr. Halsey's decision to name what most would consider a defensive item after an offensive weapon tells much about her design philosophy for the project."

So there you go noopypoop. Just a little Halo trivia for you
Oh and sorry for the thread jack, Berticus
Nice mod by the way. Hope it turns out awesome.

np it happens sometimes. we all get jack a thread everynow and then. I have ordered some plexi for the one side. Still trying to decide what i want to etch in the side and if i want to do both sides or just one. got started on some of the trim pieces but no major progress as the wife, both kids, and myself have been sick. they have the stomach virus going around and I have a massive sinus infection AND the stomach virus...so much for working on it. Some updates should folow on this or some updates of my all in one server coming up ina new mod......Till next time guys.

Well The powder coating is taking longer than expected. I did not know but he had to order the powder. SO it did not get here till tuesday so it will prolly be this weekend before my parts come in. I got tomorrow to pick up the arylic for some of the windows. I have a small update for some of the peices. I got the front filled and sanded down most of the way. stupid front ports looked tacky to me so here are the pics of that and my modding buddy outside. Yes his name is outside.

oh no it was hard as a rock in there. It cracked on the outside edge so I took a hammer and a screwdriver to it. put the screwdriver int he port holes and went to town witha hammer and it worked. hehehe

I noticed that you painted that part without the Bondo, so maybe you tossed that idea, but here's my 2¢.

Something to bear in mind with regular Bondo is that it does not like to be very thick. When you start getting up to the quarter inch mark and beyond, it cracks very easily, because it has no flexibility. If you're looking to build up a piece, use Bondo with "hair." Hair is threads of fiberglass mixed in to give strength and flexibility (Not to pimp my on pages but, see my MythTV worklog below for pictures of it.) You can use this to fill in large sections, and then cover over it with regular Bondo to get a smooth finish.

Looking great so far!

Well it took forever but I have made a big jump in the process of getting done. The case was being powder coated and it got delayed due to the fact of bad powder. But it got done then the acrylic work took time. To make it all worse a sinus infection and it being the week of halloween(w00t!!) it finally got done. I learned some important things though.
1.Sleep is vital when your sick.
2.Heat guns are the coolest thing ever.
3.Heat guns will melt all sorts of things you never thought they would melt.
4.The cat still hates the dremel.
But here is a big update with almost completed pictures. All that is left now is the detail work.

I have one question... How do the fans get airflow when you have acrylic covering up their vents??? I would think some drilling of some small holes on the acrylic should be in order. But that's just my opinion. Still looks great though. :)

BerticusPryme
10-31-2008, 03:03 AM
The power supply I have has a mass of connectors so that is tidied up. they did look worse. I am about to order some shorter sata cables and cut the cables and shorten the power leads to clean it up more. As for air it comes in from the bottom of the front door and there is a slight vent around the acrylic peice in the front and as for the top it blows out the back through a vent in to top of the back. all in al it made the case temp go up 1 degree and and then the cpu temp actually went down one.
