OK, so I got some goodies a few days ago.
http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j139/rstakelbeek/Afb000.jpg

In the picture you can see the following components:

- Gigabyte N650SLI-DS4L
- Intel Core 2 Duo E8400
- Geil 2x1GB 4-4-4-12 memory
- Samsung spinpoint 500GB
- Nexus 500W modular power supply
- my newly found HP Vectra case :D

ok, so here are some pics of the building proces (made with my mobile phone because I was too excited to get a real camera...)

The case, very nice. It has a sidepanel that opens with no srews, pretty good for such an old case. btw, I found this case in the trash at my university!

The PSU, or the box of the PSU
http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j139/rstakelbeek/Afb002.jpg

The PSU out of the box, look at the amount of cables that come with it :O
http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j139/rstakelbeek/Afb003.jpg

Installed the PSU
http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j139/rstakelbeek/Afb004.jpg

picture of the front of the case. The above part is actually some kind of door!
http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j139/rstakelbeek/Afb005.jpg

without the door
http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j139/rstakelbeek/Afb006.jpg

The drives can slide out to the front so you can mount the drives easilly, here's the floppy drive-bay
http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j139/rstakelbeek/Afb007.jpg

I intended to place the HDD in that bay, but the holes don't match, I'll mod that later.
http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j139/rstakelbeek/Afb008.jpg

Now for the real part!
http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j139/rstakelbeek/Afb009.jpg

The MOTHERboard
http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j139/rstakelbeek/Afb010.jpg

The processor, E8400 w00t!!! (I'm very happy with it)
http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j139/rstakelbeek/Afb011.jpg

unpacked
http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j139/rstakelbeek/Afb012.jpg

placed in socket
http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j139/rstakelbeek/Afb013.jpg
I tried to make a picture of the letters on the processor, but my phone-camera just doesn't work that good.

GEIL memory
http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j139/rstakelbeek/Afb015.jpg

installed it, nice overview shot
http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j139/rstakelbeek/Afb016.jpg

installed the thing in the case
http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j139/rstakelbeek/Afb017.jpg

wired it up
http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j139/rstakelbeek/Afb018.jpg

And lastly I put in an old videocard, I want to buy a brand new, yet to come out 9600GT, but I'll have to wait... In the picture you see a Asus EN7300TC512, but I later changed it to a 6600 (don't know exact model)
http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j139/rstakelbeek/Afb019.jpg

Also I later changed the HSF to an old Intel stock HSF, those are twice as high and have a copper core.

So now I'm very happy with my new system, though I'm dying to get my new vid-card.

Oh and for those who like it, I did some superPI and wPrime benches. This is on the highest clock I have had so far:
http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j139/rstakelbeek/NowITried.png
wPrime in 22,953s
SuperPI 1M in 13.031s
clock: 3564.5 MHz (memory at 400 I think)
CPU temp: 34C (Temp2 in speedfan)
northbridge temp: 40C (Core in speedfan)

So tell me what you think...

Nice!

Cases: With the exception of my new CM690 I have always used tossed out cases. The 690 is the first case I have ever purchased.

I've never purchased a case, only one time when my parents got a new computer I ordered a case for them, the cheapest one I could find :p

Anyway, that case has got to have a facelift some time, I was thinking about black with green lights and stuff, but I'm not sure yet.

Are you gonna paint or mod that case at all?

Yeah I'm gonna mod it some time, as I said above I was thinking about black with green lights and stuff, but I'm not sure yet.

It'll take some before I will start with this case though, I've got my Low Power Mini Server (see sig) I have to start on first.

And the case is underneath my desk anyway, so while I'm sitting here and typing this I can't even see the case :)

I'd really like to know how you got this to work. I just got the same mobo and cpu and I do not post. Gigabyte's website doesn't indicate the compatibility between the cpu and the mobo anywhere on their site. I'd be grateful for any information you have.

Welcome to the forums tools81.

Might I suggest posting a new thread in the "My Computer Ain't Workin'" forum? It'll probably get more views than this thread, and is easier for other people to search for and find.

I read it anyway ;). but I don't know anything special I did with the mobo or processor. I just got everything out of the boxes and the plugged everything in. I DO know that I have the third (latest) BIOS release on there, but it came that way from the shop. I also know that that BIOS had an upgrade which did something for the E8400, but I think it fixed a minor bug, and the board should work with the older BIOS version I think. I do think the mobo has got some problems with the new quad-core 45nm processors (not really sure though)

On a side note, my roommate got the same mobo but a E8200 processor and his runs fine too. A friend of his also got the same set-up and got it running without any problems with the processor.

2 things you can do: make sure mobo and processor are working by sticking the poroc in another mobo (if you have one) and try a different proc on your own mobo (again if you have another proc)
The other thing would be to contact either gigabyte, Intel or the shop you got everything from and ask them what's going on.

nice, post pics when the case is modded:D

Yeah, I am going to mod it, nut I do not know when that will be. I started a while ago to get better airflow through the case. I cut a hole in the front and in the back for a 120mm fan. here are some pictures:

I don't have a dremel, so I used this method
http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j139/rstakelbeek/Afb020.jpg

and here's the final result
http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j139/rstakelbeek/Afb022.jpg

Mind you that this case will probably not be modded anytime soon.

On a side note:
I'm thinking of buying a new motherboard, a MI P35 NEO@-FR because I think that one has more OCing capabilities, also I'm still trying to figure out if I should get a new 9600GT or an older 8800GT (budget for that is about 150 euro, I'm in the netherlands...) Any help would be appreciated.

The 8800GT is the faster card. If it is in your budget I would recommend it over the 9600GT. The G94 core in the 9600 also does not have anything new over the G92 core, so no worries of lack of features either. 8800GT FTW in this case.

Well the point is that I can only buy the cheapest 8800GS for the same money as the 9600, here's some numbers:

XFX GeForce 8800GS,384MB, GDDR3, PCI Express x16, 143 euro

Foxconn 8800GT 512MB, 183 euro
XFX 8800GTS 640MB, 215 euro
ASUS 8800GTX 768MB, 335 euro

those are the cheapest in their category, so I'll have to go with the GS to stay within my budget. Is this one as fast as the 9600GT? (also, I kinda want the 9600 because it is newer and more of a gadget like thing...)

Braveheart

the 9600GT is not that great, even though it is cheaper i would say get the 8800 GT.

Sorry to bring up this thread again, but I got some more goodies :D

call me stubborn or anything, but I got myself a 9600GT. The reason I got it was because it instantly dropped 40 euros in price, from around 140 to 99,22 (euro that is) which would be like bloody cheap here in Holland (and in the rest of europe I think). Also the 8800GT costs around the 150-160 euros cheapest...

Anyways, on with the pics :D

The goodies, the XFX 9600GT and 2 sharkoon silent eagles 1000s
http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j139/rstakelbeek/Afb029.jpg

unpacking the 9600GT
http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j139/rstakelbeek/Afb030.jpg
http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j139/rstakelbeek/Afb031.jpg

all the content of the box, card, cables, driver-CD, booklets and the 'do not disturb'-thing :D
http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j139/rstakelbeek/Afb032.jpg

OMG I own a 9600GT (still has the protection-foil on)
http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j139/rstakelbeek/Afb033.jpg

protection-foil removed
http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j139/rstakelbeek/Afb034.jpg

I do SO like the colors of the PCI-bracket and the DVI-ports :D
http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j139/rstakelbeek/Afb035.jpg

Inside the case, as always it is top down :(
http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j139/rstakelbeek/Afb037.jpg

the guts of the sharkoon fan-package; the fan, extra cable to connect to molex, screws, tie-rip (zip-tie) and rubber mounting thingies
http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j139/rstakelbeek/Afb036.jpg

One more 'everything-is-mounted'-shot (fan and 9600GT)
http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j139/rstakelbeek/Afb038.jpg

The second fan goes in the front
http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j139/rstakelbeek/Afb039.jpg

So, once again I'm very happy because of my new goodies, the 9600GT is lightyears ahaead of any other graphics card I've ever had... I can now run games at full detail and at high resolutions!

Oh yeah, I plan on modding this case some time in the future (don't know when yet) so any idea are welcome. Personally I was thinking about a black-green-theme...

Disclaimer: I know the pictures are crap, but I still don't have a good camera so I made them with my phone...

Yeah, I know, I know. Fortunately the case stands under the desk, so I don't have to look at it that much... Like I said, I will (in the future) paint/mod this thing. I'm just a bit busy with other stuff at the moment... ;)

I will say, those white fans look pretty sweet.

I chose those things because maybe I want to paint the fans too... If I go for the black-green scheme I might paint the white stuff green and leave the black stuff black. That's also the reason I got non-transparent fans. Also the looks of the plastic neon-green fans I don't like... so IF I want the fans to be an other color, it'll have to be painted.

looks like you're going to have a busy weekend ahead of you :D

I would've if I weren't already busy with other stuff. Today my cousin has his marriage, tomorrow I'll have to work. sunday I'll be at my parents' house (no modding to do there...) and on monday, when I'll be back at my own place the uni-stuff starts again... but trust me, give it some time and I WILL be modding... like someone (don't remember who) once said: "mod till you die!"8)

If your looking for a mix of black and green check out my mod. Project Green Light

Checked it out, looks very nice. Though your case has much sharper lines (edges) than mine... my case should go on a diet because it's so chubby...

Ooh, and I forgot something in my previous post:
I'm so happy with my gear!!!:banana::bunny::banana: :D

nice, ive got an e8400 as well. If my motherboards would stop crapping out (ip35-e) i would like to see how far i can take it on oc. Cant wait to see what you come up with for the mod
