I am currently in the process of my first mod, and have decided on the Ultra Microfly case with windowed sides. I've wanted a small form factor case for some time, as I simply don't have room to show off a larger case, it gets hidden in the kneehole of my desk. I got the new case and love it but for one thing. I chose the black case because it has a slick finish that I love, but the front panel is silver. In the tiny little pic on Tigerdirect it looked fine. Up close on my desk it's ugly. I've dismantled it so that I have the piece out of the front bezel that's silver and have removed the temp display and other assorted front-input devices from it. My question is how to remove the silver paint/dye/coloration from this piece of plastic. I am very hesitant to sand it since it is so prominant on the front of the case and the rest of the case is so perfectly smooth and shiny, afraid I would never get it to match. I assume the best method of removal will be a chemical removal of some kind, and I was hoping someone had an idea what might remove this coloration without damaging/softening the underlying plastic. Any ideas?
(By the way, for anyone who likes this case, it's going for $40 on Tigerdirect without a power supply. Seemed like a steal to me.)
On another note, a friend gave me an old beat-up generic mid-tower case that I may use for another project, but the front of it looks like someone has drug a fork across it in several places. Fairly deep gouges in it, can anyone recommend a product to fill and smooth these out? I was considering Bondo, but I know it is chemically reactive and wasn't sure what it would do to the plastic. Advice?
