Optical drive messing around

have a had my optical drive fror the past year and now it seems to give me problems...and i hardly use to use it..

the problem is...it recognises cd but not dvds anymore...and vice versa so it plays around...so when i go to burn it says put cd/dvd in and its already there.

what can be the problem?

Dirty lens maybe?? Pick up a lens cleaner at Radioshack or something. Unless there is special ones for burners that I don't know about. That usually solved any problems that I have reading disks.
