View Full Version : I need a rant.

My tooth hurts and I'm pretty sure its root canal deal. Its driving me up a freaking wall at the moment too, so yay for that. I would of got it repaired the last time I was at the dentist (some of you may remember that story) but dentists are not cheap and I ran out of money before I could get some of my lesser dental issues taken care of. So I told them to just forget it and take care of the immediate problem. Yep, even though I didn't really have a choice at the time, that wasn't exactly a smart thing to do. Now that minor issue has become a large one.

Here comes the fun part...

I have no money to pay for it because I can't get a job where I'm living currently AND on top of that my parents are broke and currently jobless as well (lawsuit, other bs, long story.) and because of that, no one in my family or even any of my relatives can spare any money because they are already sparing what they have for my parents, as well as for themselves, AND for my grandparents.

Now, why don't I just move into town with someone I know? Yep, I've been trying that. and trying some more. and trying even some more. It seems like I'm pretty much stuck here until April, at least if all goes to plan, which it rarely does, but hopefully it does this time. That would be an _extremely_ nice turn of events.

You know, I really don't mind that life likes to take ****s on me. I can handle that, I'm starting to actually get used to it so I guess I'm starting to adapt. But not in pain, I can't handle all of this bs while being in pain as well. Thats just cruel man.

Anyways, sorry for the rant, but I'm pretty sure if I vented on anyone else they would just tell me to stfu. Everyone I know seems to be having a really swell time lately.

By the way, I don't suppose anyone knows of any home remedies or a kind of non prescription medicine to make tooth aches go away do you? That would be absolutely WONDERFUL.

I already took an advil, but that hasn't done anything so far. At least, I really hope it hasn't. Man, that would suck if it was actually working right now, cuz once it wears off.. lol oh man, don't even let me think about it! ><

Most dentists will allow you to do a payment installment plan, I would talk to them about that.

I've had 3 root canals, and yes they were plenty expensive, but the procedure itself wasnt all that painful. I'm lucky that my benefits from work covered most of the cost, but I still had to fork over plenty of cash out of pocket. :(

Definitely talk to the dentist about an installment plan. As for pain relief, brush + mouthwash 3 times a day will definitely help with the ache, as will Ibuprofen. Stay away from temperature extremes (hot or cold food or drinks), stay away from sugar and sweets for awhile, and definitely avoid things that will stick in your teeth. That's just a nightmare when you are in pain like this.

Meditation helps too..

oh man that sucks. I've got a similar problem. I just went to the dentist and despite my diligence of dental care, I've got 4 cavities forming. Lets just say business has been slow for awhile here too, and while I think insurance would cover them, the last thing my family needs is another bill to pay. So I've got to just up the flossing and mouthwash, and pray that they don't get much worse.

Good luck with the root canal though, I would defiantly talk to your dentist about a payment plan of sorts. Root canals are not something you want to get worse, the longer you wait to more it will hurt. Take Lukes advice for types of food to avoid and again, try to find a way to get the procedure. Good luck mate, and don't take too much medication, only the recommended dosage.

Why parents and grandparents? How about credit?

Ibuprofen FTW for toothaches. :D

I'd also recommend ibuprofen, 400-600 mg 3Xper day or less if possible. Something else that may help a little, try getting some alum powder and rub it around the gums of the tooth. It helps numb the area a bit.

Note that ALUM powder is not ALUMINUM powder.

Oh well that would of been useful information an hour ago! Here I am out of my shed trying to find aluminum scrap to grind down into a fine powder. haha jk jk :p

Thanks for all the useful tips and suggestions! I'm actually not taking any kind of med at the moment. I'm just brushing like mad twice a day and using mouthwash right before I go to bed. When it starts to act up and hurt I actually sit down in a comfortable position and just concentrate on the pain and that actually helps make it go away. Crazy stuff right there!

Talk about a bit of a panic attack though. lol oh man, I thought I was F'd in the A if you know what I mean! Well, unless you've had a root canal before you really don't. Man, those things are the devil in cavity form if you ask me.

@TGS: Credit as in borrowing money from the bank? Well, as for my parents, they aren't in a situation to do that. As for my grandparents, well they aren't even working so that wouldn't be an option of course. As for the people supporting us, they could be and they might be doing that, but they don't really tell me everything so I don't really know for sure.

If you live near a big University, they have dental clinics that are run by professionals, but also do training for students. You may be able to get very low cost or even free dental care at these facilities.

Don't let a bad root fester for too long, not a good deal--it does not get better. Dentisits are very sympathetic to all types of financial situations. There is help out there.

Thanks Paul! Thats great advice! ...I wish I would of thought of it... ha :)

I'll definitely have to call around and see if I can find a local college or maybe just a place that teaches dental work. There are SO many dental clinics around here, I bet I could find someone "in need of a subject" to work on at a discounted price.

I was thinking about it the other day, and I think I remember one of my old elementary/highschool friends having a mom who worked at a dental clinic. I just might have to get in touch for old times sakes and maybe squeeze a plea for help in there somewhere. Gives me a good enough reason to get in touch with him again at least, we used to be pretty good buds back in the day.

I also remembered that one of my old friends had a friend who explained his situation to a local dentist and got his root canal done for FIFTY DOLLARS. There was more to it, like they knew each other or something, but still, I'm glad I remembered that because he also told me that a lot of dentists ARE sympathetic towards people who can't afford the expensive procedures and may just end up giving that person the procedure they need at a price that they can actually afford.

...or I can just go to mexico and get it done at a quarter of the price. lol I laughed out loud when I googled for discount dental care in mexico. SO many results! But the last thing I bought "from" mexico was a bottle of soda pop. uhhh... that was not a very fun night at all. On the other hand, my younger brother bought some kind of weird lime flavored soda pop of the same brand and found it to be delicious! lol

Life: I'm sorry.
Me: Apology Accepted.

So funny story. I was talking to my ex yesterday and she met some "cool guy" off of myspace. I asked "Whats his name?", she replied "Danny". Nothing special there, lots of guys have the name of Danny. But I guess because I mentioned him in the quote above, I just felt like asking what his last name was. She told me she didn't know yet. So I asked where he lived, she replied CDA (Stands for Coeur d'Alene). Well, that is only a couple of minutes away from where I grew up, where I grew up also being the same place as where I first met the Danny I was talking about with the dentist mom. So, feeling like there was something there (a hunch I guess you would call it) I asked for a picture, she replied with his myspace.

It was the same Danny that I was talking about earlier with the dentist mom! What are the odds of that!?

Life might be a pain sometimes, but its the crazy things that happen, like what just happened to me, that make it worth living. You just never know whats going to happen to you next, whats waiting for you around the next corner. I know. I know what it is thats waiting right around the corner. Its life, and its full of wonderful surprises.
