Hello, I was wondering what the easiest way, if possible, is to upgrade the usb port on this ThinkPad T22 to a USB 2.0. There are a few things that don't work too well through the usb port on it now.

I'm not too savvy, but this is the only computer I've got.

I tried looking this information up, but just got a ton of search results about other thinkpad t22 stuff. Nothing really related to upgrading the USB port.

Thanks

I'm not sure that you can. I believe the speed of the usb's is hardwired into the motherboard. For a desktop you can get a usb card for the pci slot and gain 2.0 that way. Maybe there is somthing simmilar for laptops that fits into the card slot thing.

You can't upgrade a USB 1.1 port to USB 2.0. However, you can buy a USB 2.0 PCIMIA card for your laptop.

is the PCMCIA slot the opening on the side of the laptop that's like 1.5" x .25" in size?

Nice laptop dude! I've got a T20 myself, I've got newer machines but this is still one of my better ones. I'm actually on it right now as my new gateway laptop decided to dropkick it's HD and Vista on my gaming machine won't connect to the internet. Do yourself a favor and hang onto that machine, it won't fail you. Also ThinkWiki.org is a very useful resource for ThinkPad owners, there are a ton of upgrades for these things, through your ultrabay (probably has a DVD drive or something now) you have optical drives, second HD, second battery, etc best part is you can hotswap in there while it's turned on. Other options for these include a number of useful docks.

Now about your USB everyone else basically said it but, your built in can not be upgraded. However you can use a PCMCIA USB card in the expansion slot on the left side. That one crenn posted looks decent. I use a wireless card in mine through the PCMCIA.
