Another project is here. Here's my Kaypro2 which I will be leaving pretty much the same on the outside, but I be changing all the insides with modern parts. I opened up my Kaypro2 and here's some of the inside pics.

This. Is. A. Great. Idea.

Now, if you can program your bios to display an animation from "Hunt the Wumpus" or something, that would ROCK! lol

I took apart the kaypro and didn't get a single shock. Here's the motherboard.

http://img237.imageshack.us/img237/4249/takeapart13rd.jpg

And the bottom of the motherboard where it's protected by this sheet.

http://img237.imageshack.us/img237/5189/takeapart29cj.jpg

When I took the motherboard off this is as it was underneath.

http://img237.imageshack.us/img237/4742/takeapart36hd.jpg

Here's looking down at the connections for the monitor.

http://img237.imageshack.us/img237/1223/takeapart48tb.jpg

And the Power Supply. I have no idea of the wattage.

And here it is empty.

I plugged in the PSU to the motherboard and pressed the button and nothing happened. I don't know if the mobo is dead or not. I tried with 2 different PSU's with the same result.

To be honest I don't even care. Ever since I've finished with R2, I have just gotten bored with modding. I've been pushing my way through my boredom hoping that the Kaypro mod will revitalize my feelings, but it has not. I'm ending it now. This project has been scrapped. I'm sick of troubleshooting problems and I'm tired of crappy component issues. It's better I just stop now before I waste the money on the 6 inch LCD. The parts to include the case, motherboard, processor, memory and keyboard are up for grabs. Anyone who is interested in purchasing them please submit an offer via PM.

Thank you all for your continued interests with my mods. I still have problem areas that I need to work out with R2-D2. The LCD and other pieces need some attention and I will continue to their completion.

Till then I will be taking a break from modding. I still have things I need to do, such as a mod for my mother and for my In-Laws. I will keep you all updated. Thanks again and stay tuned.

That's too bad, but totally understandable, man. I was really looking forward to this mod, and hope someone picks it up from you and carries on the torch - it was a great idea, but I can understand the burnout feeling.

Stay in touch on the boards, if nothing else. You've got talent and experience, and your help on the boards will surely be appreciated.

I was going to pack away the parts for my Kaypro project, when I decided to take a quick whack at it. I diconnected everything, including the CMOS battery

http://img414.imageshack.us/img414/959/troubleshoot17ug.jpg

I waited 15 minutes and put it all back together and it BOOTED!!!! Forget my last post, Kaypro 2005 is back on line!

I worked on the Kaypro keyboard. I've decided to use my blue lit Eluminex to mount within the frame of the old.

http://img480.imageshack.us/img480/5695/eluminex17qr.jpg

I set it in and replaced the cover.

http://img480.imageshack.us/img480/4631/eluminex25ya.jpg

Then drew my cut lines.

http://img480.imageshack.us/img480/7004/eluminex31tw.jpg

And then I got to work.

http://img480.imageshack.us/img480/1526/eluminex41pf.jpg

Here it is with the cutting done, but not the filing.

http://img480.imageshack.us/img480/9030/eluminex57sr.jpg

Here it is with the keyboard on.

http://img480.imageshack.us/img480/9408/eluminex64kk.jpg

I will be doing pinstriping around the edges of the cuts. I'm going to paint the pin striping, but I haven't decided on what color I'm gonna use.

hya cool case... good thing you revived it...
cool keyboard this will definitively end up being a great mod...

I just started a mod where i will build in a 8" TFT Touch screen... I cannot comment on the screen yet (since it has not arrived :( ) but if you can get your hand on a touch screen that might be an additional plus... btw I ordered it over ebay, you can get pretty decent tfts for low price...

A 6 inch touch screen? I got pretty fat fingers.

What a turn around! Going from giving up modding to back in business...

Anyways, this looks like its gunna be pretty sweet if you can pull it off.

I've been toying around with my PSU, but it's just not going to fit in the case. I have another though, it a 250 Watt Shuttle PSU. Do you think that's enough power?

http://img463.imageshack.us/img463/9581/psu16fd.jpg

Can someone tell me why the HELL the 12V connector is like 2 inches long tops?? And the ATX connector is like 3 inches?? WTF?

http://img463.imageshack.us/img463/2668/psu21mp.jpg

As you can see it'll be the perfect fit.

http://img463.imageshack.us/img463/3484/psu35ja.jpg

I have a ATX connector extension, but I'll have to go get a 12V extension.

I now take it back.

I've been looking at Shuttle Pc's and the PSU's they have to get an idea of what I could use. Most of the PSU's I've found run from 200 to 350 Watts. So I'm comfortable at 250 Watts. I will need to get a 12V extension, but that's not a problem. For now I will not be putting in a window, but that could change. I will however be installing at least 2 fans, 1 on each side of the case to pull in and exhaust air. I will use LED fans, probably blue to match the keyboard. The LCD is gonna have to wait. I have a deal with my wife that computer parts that I need will have to be paid for in my own exclusive funds. Meaning that my ebay auctions of comics and spare PC supplies will be the source of funds. I already bought a 40GB Seagate HD for the Kaypro2. With only $26 left in Paypal it'll be at least a month till I can afford the LCD.

Alright, here I go again. I will be ending the work on this mod. I just don't feel like it. I already pulled all my components out and the case is for sale. $20 plus shipping and you get the case, cover, keyboard framing, and floppy face bazels. I can also sell you a slot loading drive for $10.00 if you wish.

This is such a shame.

Couple quick questions - what size LCD is it going to take?

And how much to ship this thing?

TheGreatSatan
11-17-2005, 06:43 PM
6 to 7 inch LCD. Shipping is whatever the USPS site says for the weight, which I won't know till I pack it.

Hey, I know how it goes. I had several tool breaks, my funds for things outside of living expenses fell through, and I somehow misplaced an entire box of components. I'm not going to be re-starting any of my mods until sometime next year. But, hey, I just figure karma's telling me to try to take it easy for a while. Enjoy the holidays, and I look forward to your future projects. ;)

When i saw the project, my eyes opened as if seeing superman for the first time.

When i read that you were terminating the project, my jaw dropped as if superman died.

I bow my head in silence...

I'd be happy to take over the project though.

I have just gotten bored with modding.

To be honest, it showed in last few things you've done (for yourself, not for other people). A little hiatus will be a good thing, let you get your inspiration back, get that Satanic fire going again. ;)
