i was thinking about it and wondering how much more or less voltages/amps, etc you would need to put a read made Z5500 setup in a car running of a transformer vs putting the same spec'd stuff running on 12volts?

In a car there is no substitute for car audio eqipment. However, an inverter would be the best easiest most reliable solution to test it out. You also wouldnt have to cut the wires on an expencive speaker setup like that.

But it still makes no sence to me. You'll probly blow your speakers since they are designed to amplify a 5watt signal and a low powered stock stereo puts out at least 30watts and 50watts for an aftermarket stereo. You could run if off the rca outputs if your deck had fron/rear/sub audio hook ups. But if it did, you'd get better sound from a car amp and speakers.

I am a car audio freak and i would sugest that you stick to aftermarked audio for your car. and a normal car head unit would blow out the logitech speakers. unless like stated above you hook em up to the RCA outputs.:smoker:

ooh, never knew about that signal wattage thing. i wouldn't try it i just thought it would be easier to install and have the box already built. though you can always buy a prebuilt box anyhow.

1. what are the best brands for speakers? (JL audio?)

2. What are the best brands for Amps?

3. i have heard good things for pioneer decks.

4. when would you need cap's?

5. how many watts is a medium prices - good setup, also how much would it run you?
i was think 500 -1000 watts?

Pioneer seems to make ok speakers (I'm still using the stock infinity speakers in my jeep), and I swear by their decks (the best I've ever owned). I'm not a huge car audio freak, but from an circuits/signal standpoint you'd use capacitors if you are getting line noise that you want to filter (a low hum or high pitch squeal). From a power standpoint you'd use them to balance out your reactive power if the impedance of your speakers is high (there are 3 different 'powers' real which is measured in Watts, 'imaginary'/reactive which is measured in VARs and complex which is measured in VA). Imaginary portions of power don't do work, but congest your lines (they are freeloaders more or less) and hence are more or less bad (cause undue stress to your amps).

I know this is an older post but i missed the last couple of posts to it.

A Cap helps supply more power when your sub woofers really pound. Your lights often dim when the stereo is going because the amp is drawing more power then the alternator provides. You need 1 Farad of capacitance for every 1,000 watts your pushing.

It's best to buy matching system components if possible. A Fosgate Punch sub sounds best on a Fosgate Punch amp. You can allways mix and match and you'll still get loud sound but if you go this way, make sure you match up the atributes. If your sub woofer is rated at 1000 watts at 4Ohm's and has a responce of 30Hz-300Hz then you'll want an amp thats 2 or 4 Ohm, 500-1000 watts with a cross-over that allows you to reach 30Hz.

Under no circumstances should the i'll informed use a higher wattage amp compared to the subs. This is just asking for trouble.

Also be weary about stated wattage and RMS wattage. A good measure is to cut the stated wattage in half to get the RMS wattage. Some brands such as Phoenix Gold state the RMS as the stated wattage and could potencially blow a diffrent brands sub at the same stated wattage. Do a little bit of home work.

Also Ohm's are a big factor in how loud your stereo will be. Depending on the setup, you can achieve 1 Ohm with 2 x 4 Ohm DVC (dual voice coil) subs or 2 Ohm's with 2 x SVC. Running the subs in parallell lowers the Ohms and Series will increase the Ohms. The amp is the limiting factor for reducing Ohms. You shouldnt exceed the amp's spec's in either direction.

As for choice of decks... Get whatever one has the features you want. Ipod ready, Xfm, SD, DVD player, GigaMp3 (1,200 Mp3's My personal favorite), ect, ect. If its a diffrent brand then the rest of your stereo then make sure it has a good EQ so you can adjust the sound properties. Other then that, there all basicly the same.
