dude, I feel your pain. I can't afford gas for my car to go to the grocery store to shoplift food so the only way I can eat is to go to the hospital. The lady that lives down the hall from me bought me a jar of peanut butter and a squeeze bottle of jelly. I found a new way to have breadless PB&J sandwiches though, you get a spoon full of peanut butter, then squeeze a layer of jelly on it. It's great!

Yeah, and if you're running an AMD you don't have to pay your heating bill either.
Or a laptop. God damn this thing runs hot when I play peggle or something.

you could always keep a change of tattered clothes and go find a shopping cart to put bags in and walk around begging for money.

I haven't been broke in years. My wife and I were just talking about how I just couldn't imagine having less than $1000 in checking (We have $3000). Also, $10,000+ in savings.

Are you offering to share? J/K:D
I used to live paycheck to paycheck at my old job. Four years ago when my first daughter was born, we moved to a different city (800 km away) in order for me to get a better paying job. There was a lot of risk involved, such as what if I didn't like/couldn't do the job, etc. but I couldn't support my family with the old pay, so I had to change something. It took a career change, a big move, and for the first year here, I had to work a lot of overtime just to pay the bills.
Last year, I paid more in income tax than I grossed at my old job. Looking back, I can't believe I worked at that place for nearly 10 years for that pay, even though when I started working there, I thought it was good money.

At the uni one of my friends goes to, there's an item called 'budget lunch' on the menu... Consisting of a bowl of rice with soy sauce for $1.
On the first night I moved to my dad's house we had a tasty nutritious meal of rice, boiled carrots and soy sauce! Needless to say, I soon took over the cooking duties.

Actually my current 'budget' dish is half a cup of rice (rinsed), 3 quarters of a cup of water and once the rice is cooked, add 1 and a half table spoons of butter, some salt, pepper and some lemon pepper. It's actually not bad and is a decent meal.

Ahh the wonders of being broke...
A quick look into my situation. I'm 16, working at McDonalds. It doesn't get much broker than that. If only I could find a good job...

And by feed, I mean let you ingest their beef shaped poison.

McDonalds isn't 'poison' it's the people who eat there constantly and don't excercise.

There is just so much better alternatives... but yes if you do eat at mcdonalds more than a little bit, you're not helping yourself.

It's been proven that McDonalds, every now and again actually isn't bad for you. I have McDonalds maybe 2-4 times in the period of 2 months, and I'm actually still losing weight ;)
Quakken
02-20-2008, 11:38 PM
Of course you can lose weight. But that doesn't mean that mcdonalds is good for you.
Mcdonalds is quite tasty in moderation, actually. Just not having it every meal straight for 30 days (you won't survive.)
I don't know why i'm typing still. Maybe it's time for sleep already.

I go for the pasta, usually someone has it for a dollar a pound. And there are so many things you can do with pasta. I made tomato sauce from some of the spices I have lying around and a can of condensed tomato soup. Wasnt half bad.

Ramen noodles are great to have around for when things get tight. A little on the high salt side for those of you who monitor that. But really cheap and you can make some good dishes too.
Get the beef one and throw in some roast beef and carrots and celery, and whatever else you want. Yumm!

Ramen's salt content is ridiculously high. I think its more than half of your daily diet of sodium in one serving.

Rice is awesome. In bulk, you can get a months supply for a tiny amount of cash.
Also, get a sams/costco card if you want cheap and large amounts of food. Seriously. They have amazing amounts of stuff there, they could probably feed a small town for a month with all the stuff they have in there.

When I want to eat on the cheap I just go to China town in Sydney and friend and I had like two huge plates of food and tea for like $11.50Aus in total. That is like $10.60 US.
Rice and Pastas are really good for eating on the cheap as you can just add basically what ever you have kicking in the pantry to them. I have a signature dish called Pasta ThingaDonta because it donta look like anything you seen beforea.

We do something similar.. "whatchagot stew".
"What's in that?" you might ask.
"What ya got?"
I also agree on the rice comment. Buy lots, live on it if necessary. 3 billion people cant be wrong. :)
