Here is a neat little piece of freeware I happened upon a few years ago. If you haven't heard of it (or if you have) download it and have fun!! There are tutorials out there on exactly HOW to use it, but just by screwing around you can make some pretty cool stuff.

Here it is! (http://www.apophysis.org/downloads.html)

Apophysis is very cool. I've used it for about a year to make cool little fractals.

Here's one I made that reminds me of a falcon or a bird of some kind.

I downloaded it and it takes a while to render to disk, lol... is there a better way to go about doing so?

Change the size of the image, or change the allowed RAM usage to something higher. If you give it 200MB of RAM to use to render, it should be a lot faster than if it's only got 64MB.

You think Apop takes long... I was trying to render some abstract made in Blender with a glass material... took 36 hours to get 40% done :dead:. I stopped it right there :D.

Alright, I'll give it a bit more RAM usage then. Thanks.

I really enjoy Apophysis. I am actually using it for my AP Art Portfolio concentration. You really can do some pretty coll and artistic things with it, especially with some post-production Photoshoping afterwards.

Sorry to be a party pooper but...
I don't know if I like fractals or not.

Fractals just seem to be the same thing over and over again. Some do look very cool but they get old after a while. It doesn't seem like it takes any artistic skill to make them either. I may be wrong there though. I've never used the program before so I guess I may be judging to early. It just seems like thats how it would be.

It does take some skill, especially if you want the form and colors to come out right and in a specific way. It not only takes a decent to good understanding of the mathematics behind it but also of the basic concepts behind the aesthetics of the fractal flames. There are many good resources on the equations.

If you blend multiple images together in photo shop you'll get some amazing results. I dont seem to have aphrosis (whatever) installed on this computer but i had it on my old one. Thats a really old program come to think of it.
