So we all sit around and mod cases all day and night obviously. But after you build the latest and greatest case, what do you do with it?
Use it as your main PC for a while, till your next one? (And then store it?)
Have it sit around and be pretty while you use a clunker for games?
So what do you guys do with a case after you mod it?

Well my only current finished mods are BOX, BOX v2, and Perfoma all of which are severely outdated. I might play around with BOX v2 to learn some server applications and stuff. Project XPS will probably end up being used to hold either a web server or more likely a local file server (probably should mod in a bigger HD cage in that case). Highrise I intend to use for a high end system once I finish it, probably throw my current gaming rig in it. I think I'm going to do a few simple mods to my NZXT Apollo case at some point and sell it to some random gamer at my school.
pretty much what crimson said

It's really hard keeping all the PC's up to date OS wise--some i haven't powered up in over a year or more. It's always scary to do that---

I either put them aside or trash them. I literally threw out my Thinner ATX, UFO, and LotR Mods after they were done.

Use it as a main rig then when I upgrade my case put it in the closet and keep talking about putting a server in it
=p

I get the same feeling, just I don't use a closet. When i upgrade to a new system, the old one will "do something useful." Maybe a server! Then I get it all set up for a server and whatnot, then my mom starts yelling at me for leaving it on all the time. "Your wasting power young man."

Well I am currently building a new computer because my main caught fire and I had to put it out with a fire extinguisher here is a pic of the inside after the fire. http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg259/vastonecat/101_0253.jpg
I just took it to the dump yesterday ...didnt feel like finding out how toxic the chemicals from the extinguisher are.

good grief...
what happened? (And was it the RAID card that caught fire?)
on a lighter note, at least we know what you do with your cases when you've finished modding them... you give them a Viking funeral. :P

Well I just submitted a worklog ( hope I put it in the right place.) with a couple of pics of the disaster but as far as I can tell it was the raid card that started the fire and melted the vid card above it. and there was a total of 10 fans in this case with 2 80's blowing directly on the vid card and raid card.

I've got a couple systems and a few hard drive cases boxed up right now. The hard drive cases are worth keeping around, never know when I'll need to get data off a drive. Since I work with smaller form factors I'll probably set up some kind of display case in my home office. I've also been doing a bit of gifting with the hard drive cases, more to see if I can drum up some side business.
I'm trying to keep the system mods complete and ready to run, even if they'll never run again. I'm actually going to be setting up one of them with Windows 98se to run a 10 year old serial-port guitar synth.

blingGreen is in storage, Lupine is in use, BOSS is in a closet, DSF was auctioned and is a daily user. Feels weird to open up the closet and see BOSS... certainly don't wanna scrap it.
