View Full Version : Who's your team?

My favorite team is the Calgary Flames (team themed mod coming soon). Your SO watches with you, that's cool. My wife used to watch with me, but soon decided she likes summer better because she gets her husband back.:D During hockey season before we make plans for anything we check the team schedule to plan around games. My wife actually cheers for whoever Calgary plays in the playoffs, hoping to put Calgary out sooner. The nerve.:D
Who's your team?
I posted this in another thread (http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/forum/showthread.php?t=13627) and unintentionally hijacked it. In order to continue with it, I thought it would be better in it's own thread.
My team: OILERS!
That's right, I'm a Flames hater.
I love the Alberta rivalry. I grew up in Calgary, but I now live in Fort McMurray, so I'm outnumbered by Oilers fans, but there are still lots of Flames fans around here too. In my car pool group for work, there are 2 hardcore Oilers fans and me and another equally hardcore Flames fan that travel to work together. Every day the conversation inevitably turns to hockey and then the fun starts.:)
We still miss Darryl. Hell quite a few ex sharks are up in Calgary now. Kipper is magnificent! That was a trade the sharks have regretted, but he really needed to be the #1 goalie and he was only backup here (the Sharks have had a history of putting out excellent goalies).
Here's a trivia question; I wear my Colorado Rockies jersey to a few games. Who would I be rooting for?
Darryl was one of the best things to happen to the Flames in a long time. He got Kipper for a third round draft pick, which at the time seemed fair, but looking back, I think that's one of the biggest one sided trades ever.
As far as your trivia question, I've been racking my brain and then cheated with google and still can't find a connection. You've got me stumped. My guess is that one of the current sharks is the son of one the former Colorado Rockies (pre- New Jersey Devils).
I wear my Winnipeg Jets jersey to games all the time. ;)
Why's that, you think the Jets have as good a chance to make it to the playoffs this year as the Oilers? J/K...:)
Last semester, my engineering maths tutor (Prof. Geoff Brooks) was a major hockey fan and plays it sometimes.
In Australia? That's cool. I imagine there aren't many hockey fans around.

Good Idea Indy!
You nailed the Rocky Hockey connection. They are now the Devils. The MLB team is not the first major league sports team to use the name "Rockies". My old roommate was the camera guy for a local station in Denver and he got me in to a few games as his "assistant". I was this --> || close to being in a commercial too, but they did not like the shirt I was wearing that day. (Kansas concert shirt and they thought the connection was too eerie so they nixed me out of the scene) (for those that don't know, the Devils started out in Kansas City --> Denver --> New Jersey).
Darryl still gets a standing ovation when he comes to town (Sutter brother (http://www.titans101.com/sutters.htm)!), as does Owen Nolan. Nolan also owns the Downtown San Jose Britannia Arms.
Hockey conversations in Canada can get as heated as political or religious debates in the US, so you have to be careful who you dis.
If any of you Hockey fans get to San Jose, let me know. If it is during the Hockey season I will get you some seats in the rowdy section (section 209 FTW!). You will have a blast no matter what jersey you wear.
Monday's Game against the Hab's (just last night learned what that meant and how they got that nickname), was a GREAT game! Campbell's acquisition was just the shot in the arm the Sharks needed. Plus that spin move he has is fantastic! LINK (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cegN62zRGy8) The crowd went freaking nut's! Sounded like a playoff game.

It's funny how crazy we are about hockey. Al McInnis (http://www.cbc.ca/sports/indepth/hockey-macInnis.html), was asked about Canada's love of hockey at the 2002 Olympic Games in Salt Lake City. Paraphrased he said, In the U.S., you have football fans, baseball fans, basketball fans, etc. Most of the rest of the world loves soccer. In Canada we have hockey.
Sure we have the other sports also, but most Canadians enjoy hockey and grow up playing it. My 3 year old daughter is even starting to show some interest in it. I'm going to encourage her to play if she wants.
Since I chose my name to be IndyRacer27, you would think I'm really into car racing, specifically Indy Racing (http://www.indycar.com/), but really, I watch racing in the summer because there's no NHL. There's still hockey to watch but not the NHL.
If the Flames meet the Sharks in the playoffs, I might end up coming down for a game ( I did mention that I'm a bit of a fan right). Don't worry, I won't be trying to get you to hook me up with playoff tickets, but I'll let you know if I'll be able to make it down.
A friend of mine is a huge Oiler's fan and in 2006 when the Oiler's went to the finals, he was at game 5 in Edmonton, got drunk and woke up in Carolina. So he went to game 6 also. He wouldn't tell anybody what he paid to watch those 2 games ( including the airfare, hotels, etc), but I still get a chuckle out it.
As far as Campbell's goal, that was awesome. It's going to make high light reels for a while, and I think that's one of the top 10 goals of the year so far. Oh, and Kipper got a shutout last night.

Damn, me too. I can't believe how bad the sharks are in the last few minutes of a period. Something they better work on.
On the upside, the sharks now have the longest winning streak in franchise history with 9 games, and Marleau has the game winner in the last 3 games! He sure is stepping up the last half of the season.

Calgary, Colorado, Minnesota, Vancouver, all in the same division. With 1 loss Calgary can go from #3 to #7. With 2 losses, they can go to #9 and be out of a playoff spot. They have to put it all on the line every night. It's like an extra month of playoff hockey.

Ok, so my beloved Flames blew 2 games against teams they should have beaten. Tonight they blew a 3 goal lead and lost 6-4. For the next game tonight, I'll be doing something I have trouble with; I have to cheer for Edmonton (against Colorado).:)

I sort of understand how you feel. I had to root for the Dead Things last night. Yes they won and are now further ahead of San Jose, but at least Dallas did not get a point and the Sharks are still in 1st in the Pacific Division. That puts the Red Wings out of touch (unless they loose all of the rest of their games) of any team. Looks like they are getting the Presidents Trophy again...
I am heading out in a few minutes to attend the St Louis @ San Jose game. It is going to be LOUD! Just the welcome home from the 10 game winning streak is going to make the place deafening.
I love it. Down to the last dozen games and many teams in the different divisions are within a few points of each other. Except the Red Wings, they are catchable but only if other teams get it going....

I hope somebody passes them. San Jose, New Jersey and Montreal all have other teams in their division that are really close in points, and yet they could potentially still catch the wings.
The wings were truly dominant for most of the season, but in February they looked like mere mortals like everybody else. Nashville beating them today continues the illusion. Unfortunately for the Flames, that win brings Nashville within 2 points of them too.

I better book some holidays quick! I might be down in Shark town soon.
BTW, Could it be any better than the Flames officially taking the Oilers out of the playoffs tonight? I lost money on the last game (3 days ago) to an Oiler fan (Oilers won 2-1). I'm sure glad I went double or nothing, but I was sure sweating tonights game out! Oilers scored first but. final score: 3-2 Calgary.
In all honesty, Edmonton should not be doing this well considering the average age of the team. Give these kids a few years and I think they will be a serious cup contender. A small part of me was cheering for them to go all the way (even though the Flames stood in the way), just because of the heart this team had over the past few weeks.
I love the Alberta rivalry! It makes both cities better. Not just in sports, but they compete in EVERYTHING!

Last games of the season!
Red Wings clinched the Presidents Trophy last night and SJ finally did not get any points in a game (they went 20 games with at least a point).
Unless things change, it looks like it will be San Jose and Calgary! That is going to be a tough series. Got my playoff tickets already and can't wait. If Nashville ends up in 7th I predict a sweep. If Calgary hangs on I think it will go all 7...
Sorry about the Oilers Luke, they were trying hard to make the playoffs.
BTW, just to show you Hockey fans have class, at tuesday nights game against the Kings, they showed Scott Thornton (an ex-Shark) from the Kings (and Joe Thornton's cousin) up on the Jumbo-tron and he got a standing ovation from the crowd! If the Sharks play the Flames and they Show Darryl (Sutter Brother!), or Owen, expect the same warm welcome.
On to the Playoff's!

I can't even book tickets yet, because I don't know where I need to go. Nashville plays Chicago, Calgary plays Vancouver, and Minnesota plays Colorado. At this moment, Calgary is in 7th place, but all 3 games are huge for Calgary's standings. Calgary could be anywhere from 6th to 8th.
After the Flames fell apart last night, I had to cheer for Edmonton again. :) At least they helped the Flames, when the Flames couldn't help themselves.
SJ - 18-0-1-1 since Feb 21. What a time of the year to have a streak like that.

Well the Preds lost tonight so that puts them in 8th, Calgary could be 6 or 7 depending on the next games.
Either way, the Flames did well in the regular season against both the Sharks and the Wild. It should make for some great games. I think I would rather see Calgary finish 7 and face the Sharks. Boogaard (player for the Wild) is a big ape (6'7" 258lbs) that plays 3 mins a game and just goes out to hurt people regardless of whether they have the puck or not. I can just imagine what he'll be like in the playoffs.
Oh well, the first time I remember seeing Godard (Flames tough guy) fight, he took on Boogaard. After the fight, Boogaard went to the dressing room and didn't return. Just in case I've given the impression that Calgary can't take care of themselves: LINK (http://www.hockeyfights.com/leaders/teams/). Which, for a western team going into the playoffs, is probably not a bad stat.

In tonight's Calgary game in Vancouver:
Probably Trevor Lindens last game with the Canucks. He started his career with Vancouver (drafted 2nd overall) in 1988, in 97-98 was traded away, came back in 2001-2002 and tonight was probably his last NHL game.
Jarome Iginla sitting at 49 goals for the season. Calgary's captain, and leads the team in every stat except PIM and fighting majors, and isn't too far off in that either.
To start the 3rd period the Vancouver fans gave Linden a standing ovation. The Flames players stood as well and beat their sticks on the boards as if he played for the Flames.
When Iggy scored #50, GM place erupted in ovation even though the score was 6-1 Calgary.
After the game Linden got another standing ovation and after the Canucks players were finished with him, all the Flames players came out to commend him for his career.

It's on! Calgary vs Sharks. Series starts Wednesday and game 2 is Thursday! I cannot believe they are making them play back to back games in the playoffs... This is going to be one hard fought series.
Did anyone catch the Dallas vs Sharks game last night? 160 penalty minutes for a game that did not mean jack for anyone. Even Joe Thornton (NHL assist leader and imho THE best passer in the league!), got into it by going after Ott after Ott left his feet on a hit to Milan Michalek (no call btw). Joe is a BIG guy (6'4", 235lbs) and I would not want him punching away at me like he nailed Ott... (I felt one of those hits all the way in San Jose...) Shelly made his presence known in the second when he went after Ott to "remind" him not to mess with the best.
I love Wilson's quote on why he pulled Nabby;
"I didn't trust that team," Wilson said of the Stars. "They were running guys. For all I know, Nabby was next on their list. That wasn't going to happen."
I will also be watching the Anaheim vs Dallas match-up. That one is going to get ugly.
For all of you that do not watch Hockey during the regular season, Playoff Hockey is the best game to watch. Ever!

Playoff games back to back. WTF! who came up with that schedule? Let's just hope it isn't double overtime or worse. :)
Other than the Flames/Sharks, I'll be really watching the Habs/Bruins and Stars/Ducks. But in all honesty, I probably won't miss many games of any of the series. And I agree that the Stars/Ducks games are going to be ugly.

Well if my cable company actually offered the Center Ice package where I live, we would move all our TV's to the living room for the playoffs (no picture in picture). I envy the Canadians when it comes to Hockey coverage on tv.
BTW, the rumor was that the CBC is the reason for the back to back games... Not sure if that is true or not. It was _supposed_ to be a game Wednesday or Thursday, then the next one would be on Saturday (Friday at the tank is booked).
This is the Thornton vs Ott fight. Notice how Ott leaves his feet on the check to Michalek;

EDIT: That first link of the Shelly vs Ott fight is interesting. Even though I am a Sharks fan, Shelly deserved at least a one game suspension for that attack (even though Ott Deserved it). I am glad Shelly is on the Sharks though. He brings something more than just a tough presence to the ice, he also brings confidence. I am also happy he is playing with the "A" on...

CBC's coverage started with player introductions, the crowd was so loud I thought I wouldn't be able to hear it. Just as the Canadian anthem was about to start, the crowd quieted down and then there it was: "CALGARY YOU SUCK" clear as day. Pretty funny.
I hate to admit it, but the Flames were lucky. The Flames got the better deal of calls, and Kipper stole the game. This series is going to get heated quickly. Some huge hits already in the first game, and they'll only get more intense as they go.
I'll be listening for you all again tonight. Oh, and BTW, I'm heading to Calgary today, about a 9hr drive away. I'll be at game 3 and 4.

Yes it was a loud game!
Playoff games are usually loud. The crowd started getting quiet after the second Calgary goal. Still it was a fun game to watch.
I don't think Calgary got lucky. They played the better game and Kipper deserved the #1 star of the game. The Sharks must have forgot the game started at 7pm instead of 7:30. Their passing was terrible and even though they outshot the Flames 39 to 22 they were some of the weakest shots I have seen in a while.
Did you hear us chanting "SHOT ON GOAL"? It took the Sharks the better part of the first period to get one shot on goal and they scored. The Zebra's were definitely biased in their calls. There were a couple of calls that were bogus (the crosscheck on McLaren comes to mind) and several non-calls as well. Even looking at the replays, you can clearly see the Ref looking right at the trip or hold and no call.
All in all though Calgary earned that win. Tonights game should be much better and I expect more aggressive play from both teams. It looked like both teams were holding back, not wanting to get injuries on the first night.

3:33 into the game and I was pissed. Drove 9 hours to get to Calgary, hotels, fuel, $200 each to a scalper for tickets (for $100 tickets), and 3-0. As it turned out, it's a game that no Flames fan will ever forget.
2 hours before the game, we got on the LRT (light rail transit), at the farthest stop from the Saddledome. Everybody pouring onto the train was wearing a red Flames jersey, even the driver.
The C of red isn't just in the Saddledome, the entire city gets involved. Seeing all those red jerseys in the Saddledome, and on the streets leading to the 'dome is an unbelievable sight. Other cities try to copy it but nobody does it better than Calgary. Of the handful of people not wearing a red jersey, many were wearing the away jersey (the white one), or another Flames related shirt. Probably less than 250 people in the entire building were not wearing red or Flames gear. Most of us (90%+) were wearing the red jersey for '04 when the Flames made it to the finals.

3:33 into the game and we were ecstatic! 3 quick goals, Kipper pulled for Cujo. Then the Sharks decided the game was over and stopped playing real hockey. With the way both teams played I think Calgary will knock the Sharks out in the first round. Too bad too, since it will be a devastating blow to them. Not sure they can come back from the loss last night.

One of the most frustrating things about cheering for the Flames (this year in particular) is how wildly inconsistant they are. They play like 2 different teams; one team plays like a contender for the cup, the other team almost missed the playoffs. Luckily, they both showed up last night, but this series is far from over.

If we could get NHLTV (hell it would be nice if Comcast offered Center Ice in our area), it would be on 24/7-365 on at least one tv in the house. Thanks to the SO.
On Sunday, NBC did the ISO-cam for each game. They had 2 live web feeds with the camera focused on one player the whole time. We had the laptop under the main tv, with both feeds going. If we had PIP ability, both games would be on. It is funny that during the tv timeouts or even on the period breaks, the camera person would focus on the most random ****. One period break the camera was focused on these two young girls eating their fries and making a mess while the cameraman went for a leak. When he/she came back it got moved to a couple making out in one of the box seats. None of them knew they were being broadcast across the web. Funny stuff!

Damn that would be tough! All the way across the street!?!?! ...and you would have to socialize... tsk tsk... Heheh JK. If we had that issue here the SO would move. She is such the Hockey Betty.
Do you guys get Versus on cable? They have been playing 2 games a night, then NBC picks up at least one game on the weekend.
Yeah we have a pretty good location. If I walk out my front door, over a foot bridge over a small duck pond, I am in the parking lot of TGI Friday's, across the street is Buffalo Wild Wings sports bar and Outback resurant.
The killer is that the street is a 6 lane expressway with no crossing lights, so it can be taking your life in your hands at times...

Well it IS Hockey after all...
It was dangerous when I lived across the street from a sports bar. I used to live half a block from Yankee Doodles in Long Beach and was there every night after work (Worked the late shift and got to the bar just before closing). That is even where I met my Wife. She made me lose a Foosball game when she shoved her phone number in my pocket... It was worth it.
Last minute win for the Sharks last night! With a little over 7 seconds left in the game they scored to make it 3-2. Shots on goal = (sharks)32 - (flames)10 !?!?
With that stat you would think it was easy pickings, but the Flames were winning until just less than 5 minutes in the game. Cheechoo (Moose Cree!) tied it up with 4:54 left to play and Murry got a rocket of a shot off that was tipped in by Thornton for the win!
It was one of those games that made you nervous to the end but I still think that unless the Sharks play tomorrow night like they did the last period of the game they still will not beat Calgary. This is the time of year when you see who really wants to win.
Also Dallas got beat last night by the Ducks (quack quack, DUCKS SUCK!). Kind of funny that so far the away team has won in that series.
Anyone care to chime in on the East games? Or others?

Sounds like having too much to drink and then walking home would be as dangerous as drinking and driving.

I had some family issues yesterday and didn't get to go to the game. Nothing serious, so I still watched it. This series is quite entertaining, the momentum shifts constantly and it's tough to see who wants it. 10 SOG, absolutely embarrassing. Langkow hit the crossbar (which doesn't count in SOG), but other than that, the Flames need a lot of target practice. They probably shot about the same number of pucks toward the net as the Sharks, but I got tired of listening to "...fires the puck, and misses the net."
As far as other series, I'm enjoying watching the Pens overwhelm the Senators. Can everybody say sweep?
Montreal was criticized at the trade deadline for trading Huet, and putting all their hopes on Price. Looking like a pretty good decision so far. I enjoyed watching him at the world juniors last year, I'm pleasantly surprised to see him playing this well in the pros already. I thought it would take a few years, but I knew he would become a standout goalie in the NHL also.
Avalanche 5:Wild 1 Playoff games with a score like that usually get physical due to frustration. This one certainly did.

And now, it's a one game series.
I'll be on night shift and won't get to see it. I'm going out to buy a satellite radio tomorrow. Depending on weather, I can quite often pick up the Calgary AM radio station (850 km away) that covers the games, in my truck at work, but I don't want to take any chances. Since it snowed all day today, and by Monday morning they expect 18" (yes. one and a half feet in Mid April) , I doubt if the weather will clear enough before Tuesday night.

They had the chance to close this one out, but everyone knew this series would be one of the toughest fought. I will be at the game tomorrow night and will be screaming for my team. One good thing; The SO gets another game of Hockey! (She is already showing signs of withdrawls ;) )

So we went to the sports bar across the street to watch the Avs/Wild game. @$#^ Oklahomans, I asked if they could put on the game and they stared at me blankly because THEY DIDN'T KNOW WHAT TEAMS THAT WAS! So I explained, and they stared at me blankly again that the playoffs were going on. Every tv in the place was on a PPV UFC match and they wouldn't even turn one to another game...

The sports bars here had most of the TVs set to that match also, but there were a few TVs set to the game. A few days ago when I was down in Calgary, we went out to a pizza place and I was shocked that the TVs were set to a Blue Jays game while the Montreal/Boston and Rangers/Devils games were on. The place wasn't really busy, but before I got a chance to ask somebody to change it, somebody else beat me to it and got them changed. Nobody was watching the ball game, but once hockey went on the screen, everybody in the restaurant was watching at least a bit.

There should be a law that forces sports bars to play _at least_ the playoff hockey games. PPV UFC is NOT a sport!
Pisses me off that during the end of the regular season, the networks prefer to show pre-season baseball (or sumo wrestling...) instead of an exciting sport where teams were fighting for playoff spots...
BTW: the Cypress Hill concert at the Fillmore on Sunday was fantastic! Glad I went there instead of watching the game...

I agree! Unfortunately, they just show what the majority of viewers want (baseball), not sure why they would show sumo though. I was able to watch every Calgary game since Feb7, because that's what the viewers here want. There were a few PPV games, but at least they were available to watch from my lazy-boy.
Edit: Since I live in northern Alberta (Oilers country), I could have watched every Oilers game from home, with PPV, for the entire season.

Well..................
I was so busy at work last night, I didn't get to hear much of the game, but from what I heard, it sounds like the sharks came to play and deserved the win. Now that the Flames are out, I have to decide who I'm going to cheer for now. I'll probably be cheering for Pittsburg / San Jose to the final with the sharks winning the cup. I usually cheer for the team that puts the Flames out of the playoffs.

INCREDIBLE!
There is NOTHING in sports like a Hockey playoff game 7! I seriously believe that the crowd does matter and we were LOUD last night. JR was on fire and fought for the puck every time he was on the ice( 2 goals, 2 assists). I also think part of the win was the Sharks ability to get under Kippers skin.
...and the handshake... I have never witnessed it live and it is a show of sportsmanship like in no other sport. Owen Nolan gave Nabby a hug at the end and it was like 2 old friends meeting after a long separation (it was really). Last nights game was also the first time I have ever heard the Canadian national anthem sung so loud. Instead of a singer, they had a Sax player and the crowd just got louder and louder singing both anthems. For a moment i thought we were in Canada (hell I even remembered the words!).
Calgary was a very tough opponent for the Sharks and I thought it could go either way. Home ice is definitely an advantage.
NEXT! Lookout Dallas!

There's a lot of connection between Calgary and San Jose, and therefore a lot of mutual respect, which makes the handshake ceremony even more meaningful. Just like in Calgary's last game of the season in Vancouver; the unplanned handshake ceremony with Linden gave me warm fuzzy feelings even the next day. And I wasn't even there, I just watched it on TV. I can just imagine what it felt like to be in the crowd, seeing one of their leaders being acknowledged like that.

Of the 3 games in SJ that I was able to watch on TV, I don't remember hearing any booing during the anthems. I was hoping there wouldn't be any last night either, good sportsmanship for the fans in San Jose also.

Only once ever did anyone boo during the Canadian national anthem. That was a couple of years ago and it was not the anthem the crowd was booing at rather the person they showed on the jumbotron (for the life of me I can not remember who they showed). I think it was Edmonton...
The only other time there is booing during the Anthem's is when the Sharks play the Stars. People are booing at the word "Stars" not the anthem. I don't boo though and most of the rowdies in my section don't boo either, but we get accused of it since we are known as the "bad section". Whenever they do the Zamboni races on the Jumbotron, they always have a Pirate Zamboni and it always represents section 209. We break out in chants of "Pirate, Pirate, Pirate"!
Can you tell I am still amped from the game? Hell it took me 2 hours to fall asleep last night... Jeez, what a silly little sport can do to you.

I remember that, but I never realized that it was a certain player that sparked that. It was in the 06 playoffs, SJ against Edmonton. I remember the way the Canadian press blew it up into an international incident. That whole thing was just big a misunderstanding, now I know. Thanks. After some research, it was Pronger that was shown on the screen. It seems to me we had a previous conversation where his name came up in a negative way.

I hate it when the Flames games start @ 8:00 pm local time, if I have to work dayshift the next day. I have to get up @ 4:00 am. Game is over about 11:00, if it's a good game, I'm pumped and can't sleep for a couple of hours. If it's a bad game, I'm pissed and don't sleep for at least an hour. Add in a 45 minute commute each way and then a 12 hour shift, and I'm pretty tired by the end of the next day. Of course, I could just go to bed, but then I'd just toss and turn wondering how the game is anyway, so I might as well watch it. Oh well, I have a few months now to catch up on some sleep.:)

2-0, What's up with that?
Why can't the Sharks beat the Stars at home? This is one series that the home ice advantage maybe isn't. Well, hopefully they can go to Dallas and win both there to even it up.

The Sharks came out and chased the puck all over the ice in BOTH games. They looked like a JR. league team on the ice.
But I guess the home crowd is used to it, since the regular season was the same. Sharks couldn't beat Dallas at home, but beat them on the road. Go figure. Time for the Sharks to show why they had the best road record in the regular season.

Careful Airbozo.... we saw what happened on the last game of the season as the Stars started waking up! ;)
Stars are mah BOYS!!! (DSF anyone?)
Although, historically, they come home from a road trip and relax on game 3 and get pounded like a red headed step child.... then they wake up and kick ass on the next games.
Always a good game, espcially when the Stars are playing "at home" in San Jose, as they seem to be the only team that can win in that building!
DOH!!!
KIDDING BRO!!

You and I are going to be on separate sides of this debate for the foreseeable future! (at least... until the series is over), but I got a chuckle out of your offer on the 1st page of this thread, about "it does not matter what jersey you wear... I'll get you a seat in the rowdy section!"

Yes, the Sharks have fizzled. They can not blame it on anything but their lackluster play in all 3 games. They were at it again last night, just chasing the puck all over the ice. They have known for quite some time that the only way to win against Dallas is to play a physical game. They forgot to pack their toughness.
I hope the Stars Sweep them tonight so I don't have to watch them lose at home again. Plus it would be great for the Dallas fans to see their team advance at home. Makes it feel better in the long run.
Speaking of fans, what happened to the Dallas fans last night? During the game they were showing the stadium and there were quite a few empty seats even though it was a sold out game. In the third period they mentioned that people in the upper bowl were moving into the seats down below and the upper bowl looked empty.

As for the games.... well, the people in Dallas apparently have a shedload of disposable income, to buy tix and not attend!
Man of hte lower bowl tix are corporate holders, and many of them are just clueless about when the games are... a real head scratcher.
Add into that, that the Stars are *still* fighting for recognition amongst the Cowboys, the Mavericks, and the Rangers... Hockey tends to get a bit lost in the shuffle. But I'm working on that! ;)

PLease take this the right way... both teams came to play, and both competed hard... but *I* feel very cheated on that 1st Morrow goal. I have yet to see a "distinct kicking motion".
All I saw was a puck go in off of a trailing rear skate as he was trying to slow for the crease.
Stars should have had 3 at the end of regulation.
Your guys may have poured it on and come up with three goals as well, so I am not saying we would have one it in regulation, but I feel disgusted that the 1st goal was disallowed.
2nd one, that was fine. Clear cut. I saw why.
1st one though... no way that was kicked into the net. It was a rebound off of a net crashing Morrow.
Game 6 is now on... congrats on the win!

As a somewhat neutral party in this (even though I'm cheering for the Sharks since they put the Flames out), this is what I saw. He was skidding to a stop, if he hadn't pulled his back foot forward, he would have fallen on his butt. It was his natural reaction to be sliding that foot forward, and the puck just happened to hit his foot at the same time. However, when the puck hit his skate it stayed with his foot, and when he turned to face the net, his skate redirected it. I think it was this redirection they didn't like.
Personally, I think it was a bad call. In slow motion, it looks like a deliberate redirection. At game speed, there's no way he reacted that quick, he didn't even know where the puck was until he felt it on his foot. By then, his body was already set up to turn to face the net. Either way, one team was going to be upset about that one. The Sharks would have been upset if it counted and the Stars were upset that it didn't. On to game 6.
Nice win Philly! Now I'm going over to my next door neighbor's house to rub it in a bit. She's a huge Habs fan. We are both huge hockey fans and constantly bugging each other about the other teams failures, and then bugging just as much when our own teams are doing well. Of course, when my Flames lost to SJ, she was over fairly quickly to make sure that I knew my team was out, and got a bit of good ribbing in. It's all in good fun.
