Will be including a plasma ball in my new build and was curious as to the drawbacks, if any. I've read what I can find on here and on Bit-Tech, problems appear to be minimal, but wanted to see if anyone here could shed any more light on it. My case is all acrylic so there is no grounding anywhere. I know acrylic builds (collects? stores? attracts?) static electricity, and have read that these things put out a lot of it. The design will have it at least ten inches away from my motherboard and four inches from any hard drives or CD drives, does anyone see a problem?

I have seen a build where someone put a plasma ball into the front of their case, with no ill effects.

I'd recommend keeping as much distance as possible between the ball and any PC components, and giving the ball it's own seperate power supply.

Also, try to shield the ball's electronics as best you can with some sort of insulating material (mesh, foil, etc). Double and triple check for shorts before powering it up!

And POST PICS!

I second that notion...simply placing a piece of fine mesh (nothing with gaping holes) between the plasma ball and your componets should do you a lot of good. I can't wait to see this!

I am using two of them in one of my current projects . . .don't worry, it will be unlike anything here or anywhere ;)
