Oh, please tell me you are including Vector Prime in your list of SW books that are good. Salvatore is the shiznit. If you don't believe me, do yourself a huge favor and get any of his Forgotten Realms books. Better yet, start at the beginning with 'Streams of Silver' and work your way up from there.
Yes, RA Salvatore is one of my favorite authors. Stephen King too (long time members here will undoubted remember my left field post regarding the Harry Potter series and its connection to Stephen King's Dark Tower series). Although as of late, the only thing I have been reading is textbooks for college.
And regarding Eragon--the author lives in Montana and I have met him once at a book signing. He's a helluva nice kid. Very down to Earth.

I love most of David Patterson's Alex Cross books. Along Came a Spider and Cat and Mouse are probably my favorites, but there are so many great ones. Pop Goes the Weasel actually might be my favorite, that one was great as well.
Although old and kinda childish A Wrinkle in Time is probably another favorite. Great book. Just saddened that the sequels never directly picked up where the first left off.
Dan Brown's Angels and Demons was an amazing book as well. DaVinci Code was good but I liked Angels and Demons a crapload more. Digital Fortress was really cool too.
Michael Crichton's Prey was pretty interesting as well. About nano-tech and such.
Alot of the WoW books are pretty interesting as well. Lord Of The Clans by Christie Golden was amazing, atleast for a WoW book. I came to a completely new understanding and love for Thrall. I love that book.
Theres a ton of books I love. Ill try to remember some more. Reading is peaceful. Haven't read in a bit because of school, but I always sleep better after reading.

Of course. I have Vector Prime in hard cover I couldn't wait for the paperback. I forgot about Terry Brooks, the Shannara Series is awesome. I don't know what it is, when you get a book even an old one from teh library and you open it up, it just has this smell about it.

I've read all the possible inheritance books, Harry Potter, Artemis fowl, the Chronic(what)cles of narnia, some of these christian books (just took a trip, read all 800 pages of the first 4 books in four days)... Yeah. There are others of course, but I can't think of them.
The last harry potter book, although very good nearing the end, had a far too long middle part where they just don't do anything. But I got through it, and ended up finishing it in two days.

Wasn't Asimov the Red Eye dealer from Tijuana in Cowboy Bebop? :D
But no really, I haven't heard of any of those authors before either. What genre of authors are they? That could determine why, since I really only read fantasy.

Asimov was brilliant. Only had a chance to read a few choice books but of those they were pretty amazing.
Here's one for you guys. I can't remember for the life of me what they are or who wrote them. They are probably extremely childish at this point, but I know they are oldies so maybe some of you guys know what I am talking about. I've been looking forever and can't find them.
They are books, mostly science fiction and on most pages you are given different choices. You pick one of those choices and the story proceeds in different directions on different pages. Sometimes you cause everyone to die, or drift off into space or whatnot. God I loved those books when I was extremely young. They were all like science fiction, I just can't remember who the hell wrote them or what they were called. If anyone knows I would be EXTREMELY grateful to find this information. I spent many childhood hours escaping with these books.

I read the original eragon, and although it wholeheartedly rips off of every fantasy book ever written, I want to see how it ends. Harry potter is childish, but hey- at least I'm reading.
It's better than not, isn't it?

Heh... those books are like RPGs in book form, lol. They were fun to read. Hell, I'd read through them in order by pages (1-100, etc.) instead of following the adventure when I got bored and had nothing better to do. I don't know what the purpose was but it was kind of interesting, lol.
I should start reading more... especially since I finally got a good job and am getting good pay, lol.
Choose your own adventure.
I remember.....
And I wanted to get more.. but now I can't find the series I used to read :(
I can find CYOA books, but the ones I remember reading I seem to remember being mainly orange covered (however I could be wrong) with Silvery stuff on the cover... and dice on the bottom of all the pages....
Anyone know what on earth I'm blathering on about....?

My favorite author is easily Matthew Reilly. He's an Australian author who writes books best described as Hollywood action movies in book form. Imagine that kind of over the top action, with lots of shooting, explosions and daring plans and you're pretty much there. And it moves at a pace I have not seen in any other book. His books don't get bogged down with useless things like believable characters or so called "realism" and "physics" and gets straight into the action.
Basically what I'm trying to say is imagine something like "Die Hard" as a book. Now imagine that book was good. Thats what Matthew Reilly is like.

Eragon series, all of the Ender's Game books (especially the "Shadow" series), Sabriel, Lirael, Abhorsen (that's a series), Brave New World, 1984, Animal Farm, All Quiet on the Western Front..
I'm sure there's more that I can think of, but not on 6 hours of sleep.

Where are all the Tolkien fans? Lots of fantasy listed here but not many lotr mentions. Having read them again recently (beginning with The Hobbit), I was shocked at how different The Hobbit read. Gandalf is completely different, and the whole book reads like it was written for middle school. Interesting.
Oh, yeah, back to favorite books. A few authors and my favorites by them. They all have others but these top my lists.
It by Stephen King (his best work)
Without Remorse by Tom Clancy
Angels & Demons by Dan Brown (SO much better than The Davinci Code)
The Death Gate Cycle by Margaret Weis & Tracy Hickman (7-book fantasy series, presently reading it for the third time)
Friday by Robert Heinlein
Battlefield Earth by L. Ron Hubbard (yes, the movie was one of the most horrible pieces of audiovisual garbage ever created by the hand of man)
Usher's Passing by Robert McCammon
The Heir to the Empire series by Timothy Zahn
The Integral Trees by Larry Niven
State of Fear by Michael Crighton
From the Corner of His Eye by Dean Koontz (a very weird author, some of his stuff is excellent, some of it reads like a seven-year-old wrote it)
The Lion's Game by Nelson Demille
Elminster in Myth Drannor by Ed Greenwood (all the Elminster books are great)
A Wrinkle In Time by Madeleine L'Engle (a gift at age nine, it opened the whole concept of dimensional mechanics to me)
The Dark is Rising series by Susan Cooper
Songs of Distant Earth by Arthur C. Clarke
Every Forgotten Realms novel R.A. Salvatore has written
There are a lot more, but we can't list them all, can we? :D

Heinlein kicks ass. I need to pick up some more of his stuff one day soon. Stranger in a Strange Land was pretty good too. Hooray for opening my mind up to different views on the world, lol.

Very interesting thread, I'm a rhetoric major myself. So I HAVE to read a lot lol. But that's never been a problem.
As for favorites (in no particular order):
Albert Camus - The Stranger
Orson Scott Card - Ender's Game & Ender's Shadow
Zelazny - The Amber Chronicles
Stephen R Donaldson - The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant (the this book being my favorite)
Any Asimov or Bradbury, or HP Lovecraft for that matter.
My favorite style would have to be short horror fiction though.

Dang can't believe I didn't see this earlier. Reading is definitely an addiction of mine, I can spend hours reading and don't want to stop. for a while I stopped reading but now I'm getting back into it. I'll add some of my favorites here. In general I like science fiction and dystopia novels although I read a wide variety of other stuff.
Novels:
One of my favorites is The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck. I also like 1984 and Brave New World.
Authors:
Issac Asimov is one of my favorites with all his classics like the Foundation series.
Another author I'm really starting to like is Charles Stross responsible for novels such as Accelerando.
Series:
A number of different series I like. When I was younger I was really into the Hardy Boys books. Of course there's Harry Potter. I'm also liking the Pendragon books. Also like most of the Star Wars novels which come from a wide variety of writers.
Also I'm a sucker for Manga. Don't have too much yet but I like the Initial-D and the Love Hina series.
