4gb Corsair Domiator WITH FAN-Cheap

This must be wrong. The 2 gig pack of 1066 dominators with the same fan is over 200 with no MIR, this is 180, with a $40 rebate for 4 gigs!


Maybe it cause it doesnt have EPP? Is that a very important feature?

Not sure where you get that it doesn't have EPP, as it does. You can download the pdf here that shows that they do have epp http://www.corsair.com/products/dominator.aspx.


EPP works with EPP enabled motherboards to use the unused spaced that the SPD was originally allocated. SPD was given 128 bytes but only uses 0-98, so EPP can use 99-127 to store info like cas latency, memory voltage, and other such info that can be easily by the bios to autoconfigure the rig. Its an acronym for Enhanced Performance Profiles or something similar if I remember correctly.

You will only be able to use EPP with Nvidia motherboards. EPP becomes helpful when using rivatuner and such. Just another way of trying to make things simpler to overclock and stuff like that. I'd rather just do it myself and remember my own settings and do everything manually in the bios, but ehh...(Edit: I guess it has like preloaded profiles in that space that are for different overclocks and you can change them or use the ones there. Doesn't seem that it does much for an experienced overclocker other than allow you to see what settings the manufacturer recommends.)


So thats the gist of it. Nothing ground breaking imo if it didn't have it, as only certain boards can take advantage of it anyway. But to reiterate, the Corsair ram does support EPP.

Thats what i was wondering, but the thing was it didnt mention it had EPP in the product page, but all the other ram did. Also people said that they had to buy a 2gig pack that was EPP compatable to get EPP to work.

The reviewer didn't say he/she had to buy the 2x1gb because this set didn't have EPP. They stated that they had different versions of EPP that weren't compatible with each other, so they were getting another 2x1gb set so they could have a compatible pair of sets. (they didn't specify if that would be the 2 2x1's or the new 2x1 and the current 2x2). Either way it has EPP, they just had an issue with it working with an older version on their proprietary dell motherboard.

But I see why you got confused, his/her multiple posts were confusing as they flipflop which set was right and which was wrong.

Either way most all new Corsair DDR2 that I know of supports EPP.

DDR2 has been dropping in price a lot these recent months, and now its starting to carry over to the higher end lines. The rebate is just whatever they are giving back to you. Corsair was good with my rebate 1/2 year ago. Took about 3-4months to get it but I got it.

Even if its cheaper then some of the competition I still don't look at it as very cheap as you can get ddr2-800 for 60-70$ for 4gb's, and many of those will overclock to near that high.

Then again, that could all me being a cheap poor-ass realizing I can't drop 1000+ every 6 month - a year or less to upgrade. In fact its about time for me to start giving back to the community again. Maybe build a nice case and donate one of these old computers to another kid who may need it.
