From: Hexus.net - Armari's super computer.

The XCP is packed with twin quad-core CPU’s running at 3.2GHz and is capable of utilizing up to four graphics cards. No details yet regarding the hard drive space or RAM situation, however, a cool $20,000 tag says it will probably be sufficient for your needs. It’s all stuffed into a case designed solely for the purpose of cooling the components with liquid nitrogen and just happens to look like something out of Galactica.

It doesn’t seem as if the price is justified though considering you can probably build the same thing sans nitrogen for a few thousand if not less. Nitrogen cooling isn’t exactly new to the world of computing as overclockers and PC enthusiasts have been doing it for years. Granted, their systems are probably far more dangerous. It’s pretty cool if you think about it though, considering the short list of people who can proudly say that they own a computer cooled by an unstable chemical substance. Water-cooling eat your heart out.

Eclecticos: I think is a strange case design, but the technology is cool none the less.

I'm seeing plastic..... something which doesn't mix well with liquid nitrogen.

It says that liquid nitrogen is an unstable chemical substance. Nitrogen isn't really all that reactive, is it? I mean, our atmosphere is something like 75% nitrogen. cold, yes. Liquid nitrogen is really cold.

i doubt it runs off LN2 all the time you have it on. that would be a massive bill at the end of the month for LN2. and no LN2 is completely safe, aside from being burnt from it or not getting any O2 for yourself. nitrogen won't react with anything in our atmosphere.

Big Deal. LN2 in a sealed system, bladda yadda yadda. When they make it a cooler I can get for $50 at Xoxide, that would be worth looking at.

Liquid nitrogen freezes at 63 K (−210 °C/−346 °F). Despite its reputation, liquid nitrogen's efficiency as a coolant is reduced by the fact that it boils immediately on contact with a warmer object, enveloping the object in insulating nitrogen gas. This effect is known as the Leidenfrost effect and applies to any liquid in contact with an object significantly hotter than its boiling point.

Dont expect a cheap LN2 cooler any time soon. You would need somthing like the best phase changer on the market just to keep the nitrogen from evaporating quickly.

After reading the articles, that appears to be water based unit at aprox $10,000

Nice Photo Shopping skillz:)

Yeah it seems like a rip off. There's only $2500 in actuall hardware if that. So the diffrence is what the case costs. About $7k - 17k for the cases. While they are limited quantity and high quality like lambogini's, The price is borderline lunacy. If they could shrink the cost to say 1k - 3k, it would be more accessable to the enthusiasts who arent millionaires.

I wouldn't want it anyway, it's pretty ugly. I like the more reasonably priced HP002 blackbird more.

All that plastic seems like it wouldn't be that efficient at heat transfer, and there seems like a lot of unmoving air in that case. But I wouldn't know.

It does have dual quad cores, though. It's kind of like a mac, but even more expensive for no reason.

I see them selling 3 of those- 1 to someone who didn't know what he was buying but is too afraid to return and 2 to rich people who have nothing better to do than buy one and then gloat about it in youtube comments.

The thing I see adding the most cost on their liquid unit is the use of 3M's flouroinert. Great product, superior heat transfer. Something insane like $500 per gallon. I am working on a liquid closed loop cooling system, and I had to go with mineral oil, because it is 1/10th the cost of the superior product from 3M.

i would say closer to 4000 oh hardware if those quads are extreme ones anyway. thats 1k each and that motherboard is 500-600.

I agree. I'd get one and write up another review, host it here and get it for free.

I'm reminded of something I picked up a long time ago when I tried my hand at selling cars--there's a seat for every sucker.
