Anyone here a victim? I enrolled in lifelock as I am currently the best off I've ever been. Your thoughts?

About lifelock- From what I have seen, you can do all the stuff that they do for you for free, but the million dollars of insurance is definitely a good thing.
my dad got hit with about 4k in charges on two different cards....

I have had 2 instances of people trying to open accounts under my name/social. Since I have no credit cards, they were flagged instantly and refused. Last I heard it was the same person and he is sitting in jail (for multiple counts of identity theft). I hope bubba teaches him some lessons...
We have looked into the account protection but do not use it.
i always keep a close eye on my credit report so i notice if anyone even attempts to gain credit with my name.
Also i shred all my bills and anything with my name on it, Tip, Fill you shreder to the top, then only empty 50%, when its full again mix it up and again only empty 50%, keep doing this as everytime yo doso it reduces the risk of fraud as the information is being watered down.

My dad got hit for about 100k about 10 years ago. Dad got everything straightened out and got his money back. The guy was caught, charged, and convicted, A few years later Dad got hit again. Immediately the credit card companies started checking into it and found it to be that same guy again. Freshly out of jail and apparently trying to get back in. Dad never lost any money with either case, just a whole lot of frustration.

Isn't identity theft pretty much to do with credit? I don't plan on having any credit cards and only buying possibly a house and/or car on credit if that (as in loans)... I like spending money that's already mine, not pre-spending it or using someone else's.

Mostly but you have to be careful on all your information. I was reading about a week ago about people who had their medical insurance stolen and charged to. One lady had to argue with a doctor that she wasn't allergic to a certain med. The only reason she found out about it was because Social Services called and said they were taking her newborn because it tested positive for Meth. Her youngest kid was 4.
I've had checks tried to be written that were stolen from my car but they caught the people. Now I find out I think they may have charged my one and only credit card at the time and now some credit place wants me to pay $2500 in charges. They only came forward to contact me last year when the wife and I applied for a house. Get this though, the debt is somewhere around 7-8 years old but they keep selling it to other creditors to keep it alive.

What bullcrap... I'm careful with my stuff anyway. I don't like handing my info out to random people. Hence why I keep track of my charges and all online along with in my head. That and I don't buy from random sites either. Another battle that requires constant vigelance (or however that's spelled).
