So yeah... I'm needing a new workstation card since my ATI FireGL V7200 burnt out. I was going to replace it with the Quadro 4600 or 5600 but then I saw the FireGL V8600 and V8650. So now I can't decide which one to get. I wanna get the V8650 just for bragging rights (2GB video ram LOL), but then again I've used the Quadro 4600/5600 and it performs insanely well.
So what do you guys think... Quadro or FireGL? As you can tell price doesn't mean much to me :P
And here is one one for you. I know that no Socket771 boards support SLI, but what about a socket771 board supporting x-fire?

I'm not to familiar with workstation cards, so someone else will have to chime in there.
But, there is a socket 771 board that supports SLi, and not only that, it also supports Crossfire as well. The Skulltrail boards support both SLi and Crossfire.
They are quite expensive, but if money is not an issue and your looking for SLi in a socket 771 platform, with the ability to go crossfire at a moments notice, then that is the board you want.

I know a fair bit about quadro cards but very little about the FireGL cards. I'm kinda leaning towards the VL8650 cause it is a huge card (Bigger is better ;)) and it has 2GB ram which would give me massive bragging rights over all my friend's systems ;P
Ehh... I would get a Skulltrail board but they are $650+. It seems a little too much for my tastes. Most expensive board I have is $600 but it supports 4 procs >.>

Ya, they are expensive. Just was stating that there are boards (one) that supports 771 and SLi, and not only that but also crossfire.
Hopefully someone can chime in on the workstation card issue for you though, as that isn't my strong point. But if there is a card you want all I can say is go for it if you can afford it, etc.

I think I'm going to go with the Quadro 4600 since it is more than enough power. Plus it uses the 8800GTS PCB board and the mounting for the heatsinks are the same... which means I could slap an 8800GTS waterblock on it ;)
I might pick up on of those skulltrail boards if the local computer store can order them in. If I do that I will get two 4600s just for the heck of it. Doubtful I will ever use much of the graphics power but w/e
