While i've got nothing to use this new to me laptop for, im turning it into a folding box (pardon the pun.) When i first learnt about Folding@home, i thought it was pretty cool. However, its limted to particles or some crap that looks like particles. Anyway, i found a better program that actually lets you choose between somthing like 20 diffrent programs to donate CPU Cycles to. I created a TBCS team for SETI, Rosetta, and Spinhenge @Home. If you want to make a TBCS team for other projects, list them here so others can join.

Put that old computer to pratical use; Come join in the Folding!

Heh, wouldn't you guys love if I set it up on my desktop ;)

I find it hard to believe that my computer makes much of a difference, when they've got behemoths like Blue Gene out there cracking at it. It's like making penny donations to Bill Gates

If i got everyone in the world to donate one penny, i'd be a milti millionair

Sry, I got me a folding team. ;)

My server farm is down due to potentially obscene electrical bills, my roomie may not like that sort of thing. Besides, 7 PCs make for a nice heater in the winter time, but we see heat waves of like 110f here in the summer. -_-

I've actually got a machine atm sitting around doing nothing...perhaps I'll join the folding team.

because EVERY bit helps, its thinking like this that alot of problems still go on today. everyone says i can't do this or that because whats 1 extra person going to do. if every person in the world gave 1 cent and collected it there would be 67 million* collected. its all about small rolls making a big difference.

I can't find a join link on the TBCS SETI page.

Do we have a team for Folding@Home?

EDIT

I just started a F@H team. The team number is 155539.

Did this all start from me talking about it in another thread?

I'll join the folding@home team :D

EDIT: I think the folding@home project is better than the others, as it is all about protein folding, which will help cure diseases such as genetic implications.

I forgot about it until you stared that other thread. There wasn't a team, so I installed the GPU F@H on my new windows installation and created a team. I'm running Folding@Home on my GPU, and BONIC on my CPU. My CPU, being maxed out for 12 hours, so far, is still at 41°. My 9800GTX+ is at 64°, after running for about 5 hours.

I think your 9800GTX+ will beat my 8600GT's in 2 way SLI. I need to run two GPU clients to use it :S

However, my GPU temp doesnt increase at all, and my processor isnt used at all unless you are actually using the viewer, in which case it is 100% on both cores :D

BONIC has kept my CPU (both HT cores) at 100% for the whole time that it's been running. That dark knight cooler on the video cards is really helping. My old 8800GT probably would have been hotter than 64°.

I am actually a member of the OCAU (Overclockers Australia) team (rank 2nd in F@H), I may convert over.

If I can afford a fuel cell battery for my computer, I'll join in too! (Can't use my PC too much since power bill is high)

You could always look for a more efficient power supply, or patch into the neibours (bad spelling i know) ring mains :D

Joined up with the Rosetta@home team. Three boxes working on it (desktop, laptop, and local server (it's very weak but on 24/7)).

I have a Silverstone 850W PSU, it's already 80% efficient at least.

This is completely new to me, but it looks like a really good way to contribute our vast resources in numbers to help with scientific development. Am I reading that right? If that is the case then do we have an official TBCS organization to focus on? If so, I'd like to give it a little press. Someone take the reigns and give me a simplified rundown of what's what and I'll see about getting it circulated.

Trust me on this, it makes a major difference. Ack, for some reason I just got forced out of my University web-pages, or i'd give you exact figures. Anyway, the distributed folding systems are the most powerful computer on the planet. It's power is measured in terraflops. Adding your spare cycles makes all the difference.

It is true. I left my PC downloading overnight as I was downloading many game patches, updates, demos and windows updates and my GPU folder 6 proteins. I run it constantly, I only ever stop when I am gaming.

With 4 working machines at home currently, I really need to get back in the game, so to speak. This will be a good project for this week.
