Alright, I can over clock(I know what I'm doing). But I've never ran into this problem.
I'm over clocking my 2.8 GHZ CPU to 3.9. Of course I have watercooling and it runs at about 100º F. However, If I try to bump it up to 4, Windows freezes.
It posts, and I can enter my bios without any problems, so what the heck is going on here?
I'm assuming you are using Windows XP pro? and not some gimp edition like ME.

you maybe running into a limit on the mobo / ram / proc.
getting a 2.8 to 3.9 is doing well seeing most reports are around 3.4

Many people can't get past about 1 Ghz, when OCing, that's quiet a nice overclock. Pull it back down to what you were running when it wasn't freezing, and run a stabilty program such as PiFast 4.3 or SuperPi. See what you get. If it computes correctly and you dont get errors, than your system is stable. I think its just a matter of stability and you have hit the roof as to how fast your processor can go. You have increased the vCore I'm assuming and put in place a memory divider.
