I was wondering what are some good surfaces to practice on besides old PC cases. I would prefer a surface that will give me the same effect if I do it on a normal PC case. The only surface that actually comes to mind is plexi, then again I could be wrong about that.

The only things that come to mind are most types of plastics, scrap metal, and wood.

And some others that should work, but not widely used.. gravy, very small rocks, churches, a shrubbery, one that looks nice, with a path, herring, the family dog/cat.

Nobody else has anything to contribute or even like the Monty Python references?

ni ni ni ni!! you asked for it.

but i would indeed go for scrap metal as the best surface to practice. also practice with bondo on the same piece so you can get a feel with that too.

Yours Cheron.

aslong as you have the proper primer on your material, painting is the same for everything.

What about a swallow carrying a coconut?

Or better yet...a duck! :D

Those 2L soda bottles work well for simulating painting Lexan/Acrylic. I cut them in half, more or less and use them for tuning in the air brush before using it for painting Lexan bodies for RC cars. (Since on those you paint on the inside, which protects the paint, but makes painting awkward).

I suggest you weigh all of your paint against the thing you are painting first/a duck, always. You can use the village's LARGEST scales, too.

On a more serious note, be sure to spend ~$5 on a trigger (http://www.automotivetouchup.com/store/accessories/aerosol_trigger.aspx). You can thank me later.
