Good evening all. I am brand new to TBCS and this is actually my first post. I am in the process of building a rig at the moment, but my first question is actually not computer case related at all. Seeing as how crafty you guys all seem to be, I'm hoping I can maybe run this question through you guys for some help.

I am currently building myself a new desk to fit in the corner of my room. Truth be told, I'm actually just building a new desk top. I am going to use my old desk as supports. Regardless of that, everything is all cut and finished. It's a simple corner desk cut to exactly fit into my living room with extended sides both on my left and right. The only non flat piece of the desk is the monitor stand which is cut to fit directly into the corner and come out 22 inches from the wall.

Ok, enough back story, here's the question. The monitor stand is 6 inches raised over the desk top. I am looking for a way to suspend a shelf under the top of the monitor stand and some how mount a 15 inch LCD in a "drawer" that I can pull out and have it fold down. When it's fully opened it will be on a downward angle facing up. Best way to describe it would be \ if you were looking at it from a side.

Problem is I have no idea how I can go about mounting something like this. I cannot go with a standard drawer as there are no points on either side that I could squarely mount a drawer. Essentially all mount points would need to be mounted above into the monitors shelf and "float" down.

I drew a absolutely terrible image of what I am trying to ask in paint to try and clarify. Lets see how that goes. The black assume is the wood pieces cut & where the main monitor would be. The red is where the LCD can be mounted and how far down I'd like the cover / front of the drawer to go. Blue is how the lcd would sit. Hot pink where the wood supports are going up to hold the shelf.

Hey mate,

Welcome first of all. I have one idea for you, but first I did a quick sketch in CAD is this "basicly" what you are after?

(I can draw it all up for you properley but I would need a few dimensions) I was thinking you could use some drawer runners as a mount for the monitor, with a rod/bolt at the end that would allow the monitor to drop to an angle when it is al the way open? Hmmm bit hard to explain, but if my sketch is sort of what you are working with I can draw it up.

Hey Talon. Thanks for drawing that mock up for me. However the monitor stand actually is not squared off. Its more of a V. I need to a way to mount the pullout directly onto the bottom of the stand. I tried to make a slightly better drawing in paint again (sorry for that).

I plan on closing off the front of the drawer as well and finishing it with oak trim so that when closed you cannot see that there is a LCD mounted behind it.

Hope that helps a little. I am completely stumped on how to mount it with only the top to mount it to. Thanks again for your help.

Oh and I am Australian so my measurements are in Metric (Millimetres)

I was looking over this and thinking about how you could build a floating drawer. here's a quick little sketchup of what came to mind for me. The drawer is just generic measurements 12"X12"X2".

http://img520.imageshack.us/img520/5987/floatingdrawersidebd6.th.jpg (http://img520.imageshack.us/my.php?image=floatingdrawersidebd6.jpg)
this is the side of the drawer with dowels for slides.

http://img520.imageshack.us/img520/566/floatingdrawerrailgd9.th.jpg (http://img520.imageshack.us/my.php?image=floatingdrawerrailgd9.jpg)
this is the rail for the drawer.

Basically the dowels would ride along the rail. The back block you can see would hold the back dowel on top, keeping the drawer level, until you pulled the drawer. The front dowel will slide out the bottom of the rail and the weight of the drawer will keep the back dowel running along the top. Then the second block you see will stop the top dowel from sliding anymore giving you an angled screen in front of you. The only thing I would need to know is the measurements of the monitor stand. Then I could give you a scale drawing and show you what you could do. Hope any of this helps you out.
