was wondering if i could paint a design using paint rollers with a white or transparent material that paint wouldn't stick to. then i would dump a paint bucket of red on the whole thin and the entire object would be red except for the transparent material. btw, i know i could just do this with painters tape, ad then peel it off, but since its going to be large scale and on concrete, painters tape would be inefficient.

is there such a material to repel paint?

Get some vinyl cut. .use it as a stencil.

There are tons of different types of vinyl I am sure one of them repels paint, water ect. .
Let them know what your using it for "Stencil" and it will be cheap.

Make sure you prep the surface of you might take the paint off along with the decal.

For concrete, you might want to try a brick of wax(the stuff borders use on rails and curbs). Use lots of wax and fill the small voids. Paint will run right off it. You could then use a heat gun to melt it and sop it up with a rag.

i would try to find one with a low melting point, bee wax is pretty low i think.

Parafin wax is probly the cheapest. You can buy it in bulk for candle making and so forth.

For concrete you could paint the area to remain well concrete color with something like Thompson's water seal (cheap in 1Gal or 5 Gal cans)..This would seal the voids in the concrete, also any paint you get on it (as long as it's water-based) could be squeegeed off (for large area's) or wiped of with a damp rag (small areas) while the paint is wet... If the paint dries your in trouble.

Good Luck!
