Heya. Im looking to finally get an LCD (after lusting over them for several years) and i thought i would ask some questions before i purchase.

First of all, Im looking to spend 100-200 USD. I just plan on using it for day to day stuff. Is this enough? I might do some light gaming but when i get a graphics card but that won't be fore a while. I don't really need anything more expensive than this do i?

Im probably gonna go for a 17-19 inch wide-screen.

I just figured i would ask if there is anything you guys think i should look for/look out for. Or if there is anything I need to know before i buy.

What are some of the more reputable brands? I've never heard anything bad about dell monitors, are they still good? We have them at Walmart and i get 10% off at Walmart. Would you strongly recomend NOT buying from Walmart?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks everyone!

Save up an extra $70 and go 22". I just got an Acer P221W (http://www.pcworld.com/article/id,138856/article.html), and couldn't be more pleased with it. $269 at Best Buy.

The one thing that worries me that i just thought about is my graphics chip not being able to push the resolution necessary for a larger monitor. Im still using dedicated graphics so I'm not sure what i can really go up to resolution wise. I think i'll check the specs for my motherboard now that it's on my mind. It might tell me how big i can go.

Edit: couldn't find any solid info on my mobo. Perhaps ill just buy a cheap pci card to be sure i can push the right resolution. But if i do that i probably wont be wanting to spend the extra 70 for the 22inch

The via chipset should be able to do that resolution... but don't expect to play games.

No dead pixles, no blurs, no bleeding!

I got each for just shy of $200 a piece. Gotta watch the sales!!

Lol, I know. I can't play games at the resolution I'm at now. Windows see's my current monitor as 800x600, but i think i might have bumped it up to 1024x768. I really could use a cheap graphics card though. I just hate to sink money in to my current rig.

Ill look in to that. I'm on the newegg mailing list but i usually just delete the adverts when they come. I've never had the money to buy stuff untill i started working lol.

Now that im thinking about it, 22Inchs would be really nice. Im a comp sci major and when I'm programming i like to have lots of screen real-estate. Eventually i plan on running dual monitors. Unless my next paycheck is unexpectedly large I'm probably gonna look to be purchasing this in two paychecks... so about four weeks. Got bills to pay. : ( (just moved away from mommy and got thrown in to the real world)

Trust me... you won't be disappointed with the CHIMEI brand. I'll prob get a small 17" or 19" for my secondary computer. Can't fit another 22" lol.

I'd recommend not buying a cheap graphics card, if you must, buy a cheap computer, $500 will get you a decent computer.

Ok, Maybe ill just save for the 22 inch then and see how it works out. I am planning on building a computer later this year anyway. There is just alot of other things i need before i build a new machine. Once, summer rolls around i will save 40-50 dollars a week in gas money so maybe ill get some spare changed then and start building my new rig.

I am currently using a Hanns-G 19-inch widescreen that I got from Newegg and I love it. It got excellent reviews (5 eggs), and I have had no problems with it whatsoever. It seems they have discontinued this model, but Newegg has a similar model for $175. 1,145 reviews and five eggs, that's pretty good. :)

I would buy another Hanns-G in a minute, just my two cents.

Cool, Thanks for the input, ill keep that in mind. :)

I had to buy a battery for my car today since mine died while i was at the auto store. (perfect timing, right?) Anyway, Seventy dollars down and it'll probably be either a) an extra two weeks of saving, or b) cheaper monitor. I still feel like i want to go 22inch, so if i can push my self the extra two weeks ill try to keep saving. If it gets tought to keep saving ill post up in hear and you can all be like "Go on man, keep saving, its worth it!" You know, make sure i see the light at the end of the tunnel. lol

Yeah definitely watch for sales, I got my Acer 19" Widescreen for $150 shipped on newegg about a month ago. If its still relatively cheap I would highly recommend it

I've bought tons form Newegg, Tigerdirect, Amazon, Buy, CrazyPC, 1SaleaDay, Woot.com, Performance-PCs... ya the list goes on. I get a mailer from pretty much all of them. I bought my monitors from Newegg.

Just thought i would update...

My mum just ordered a monitor for me for my birthday. Just 20 inches but I'm happy w/ that. Has good reviews so I'm excited.

It will work for me and i look forward to see how poorly my games are going to run when i up my resolution past 1024 x 768 lol. I'm sort of afraid to do it because last time i did that my video card overheated and died. I think it had a faulty cooling system though. I got the card replaced at circuit city w/ the same model and its been working fine since. *crosses fingers**knocks on wood**salt over shoulder**looks for rabbits*
