About a year ago, intel slashed the price on their Q6600, they've done it again.

Its always nice when they drop prices, but I didn't see anything in that about the Q6600, unless I missed it. :(

They haven't dropped the price on the Q6600 since it's not needed to be dropped.

They are dropping all the prices due to the new processors coming out. The 45nm.

Am I reading this right? The e6600 is six dollars more than the q6600 on Newegg? What am I not understanding?

Lots of factors at play here--supply and demand, bait and switch are two that come to mind instantly.

No different than the good ol 486 days where the math co-processor was on a different (and pricey) chip, which allowed Intel (and I would like to add IBM, Compaq, et al) to make extra cash by selling SX systems, which were sans math co-processor.

Yes.. and my first PC was mistakenly an SX system. DOH. Oh well.. I've come a long way since then.. hehe

You completely lost me at "math co-processor" but I'll take your word for it.

AMD was going down hill, then they bought ATI......

Now they will drag ATI with them. Intel will pummel them with the new processors.

Kinda sad if you ask me.

No competition means less innovation, price drops etc. Hopefully AMD will pull through.

I am hoping AMD will step up... meanwhile, I think I will switch back to Intel for a while... those new 45nm processors are awesome.

I don't think AMD will ever be down for the count. Sure, they're going to have some tough times, but in the end they will pull through.

Well they have to. They're Intel's only possible competition. Who otherwise, Via?

True modders building processors out of billions of light switches and 12 gauge wire in their basements.

all that news is old, thats the price i got my quad for (300) and yet the date on it is new, a mistake i think.

That's talking about the Q6700, not the Q6600 ;)
