What Grade SandPaper should I use?

Ok, so I'm gonna start sanding my case so I can primer and paint it.

This will be the first time I've done this so what grits should I use?

Case is thin steel and plastic front.

I'd buy a variety of grits all the way up to 2000 for your final polish, start low and work your way to a good finish until it's ready for primer.
