I really want to make something like this but since I don't have a actual desktop I could just make a waterfall box lol.

I really love the idea of building an aesthitically pleasing waterfall centerpiece (something our wives could appreciate in the house) that also served as a giant water cooler...
Even better, link it to be a water cooler for multiple PCs! or heck, do something like this at work and rig up the whole data center...
I heard once of a pool that was heated by the waste heat from a data center.

I'm googling this now!

we had a guy make a Far Cry mod here that built a waterfall into his design, though it wasn't as grand in scale as the one you've proposed.
EDIT: Here is the Far Cry Mod, I have always suspected that any waterfall open to the air would be a fungus problem but have never heard definitively one way or the other.

Is it an image then? :s
Also what kind of water goes into a resivour? Is it just pure water?
What if you made like a natural looking waterfall, real plants and fish included. That would obviously contaminate the water, but could the water live with a little alge? (Okay cut the fish. :() you could run it through a simple filter before going into a smaller tank inside the computer, to catch that.
Damn, now i REALLY wanna turn the side of my case into a waterfall. :)

One of our previous clients at work was Bell Helicopter. Their HQ/Datacenter is in a ritzy area of Dallas, and according to their building code, they didn't allow a the company to install water tanks to cool their mainframes. They were deemed ugly. So Bell looked into it and there was nothing about Swimming pools, so thats what they did. So they too had a nice heated swimming pool, but they didn't allow anyone to swim in it.. :(

I thought about something like this before:
http://imgs.inkfrog.com/pix/Duchess/FountainTombstone-1.jpg
The red coolant would spill out the skulls mouth and back into the reservoir after moving throughout the system. Problem: Bubbles.

wouldn't the waterfall serve as a natural air release?

See my thought is build something like this:
Waterfall Feature (http://www.crystal-fox.com/index.cfm/BW_Magnus_Water_Wall_Floor_Fountain_3495.htm)
Use the giant tempered metal plate backing as a large heat transfer surface to a series of pipes behind it that serve as the radiator for a PC watercooling... So basically you have a 2 stage evaporative cooling system that looks fantastic...
Oh the ideas,... My wife is going to kill me...

Amazing idea!!! The water could be pumped out from the bottom into the system for cooling, then the water could be recirculated through the top after all the cooling and whatnot... it'd be pretty :) especially with some lights underneath it like the pics on the first post...

It may work if you install an inline water filter.
wouldn't the waterfall serve as a natural air release?
No. Would more than likely add air to the water.

Ohhhh...return of the dead thread! Just thought I'd bump this to say that I have an waterfall res coming in the mail right now from the same guy who did the one's in those pics, his name is CyberDruid and im not sure if i should link to another board but he's worth it. http://www.overclock.net/cyberdruidpc-pre-sales/549130-polycarbonate-waterfall-reservoirs-production-pre-order.html I will start a thread to show my res when i recieve it.

Awesome! I love the idea, its very cool looking.
I bet I could make a laptop cooler stand that double's as a waterfall res/rad/pump. I wish! :D

hi.
You should really look into a bong set up. No you silly hippies, its not what you think!
Pritty much a bowl with a pump. A shower head and a fan. Of course this is not tottally what your looking for but the concept is there.
The technical term to the type of system you are thinking of is a open air loop. These do not create bubbles.
The problems are you will have a lot of water. You need a shallow res. The water will evaporate at a alarming rate depending on room conditions, so you will need a lot of water on stand by and a system that will warm you of heat or drop in water level so you dont forget.
Because of the water you will need more frequant maintanace checks and a running cost of buying water, solution and dye.

Won't the front fog up eventually? Other than the splashes, temp changes in the coolant and outside temps could cause condensation and ruin the view
