When I press the power button on my computer, the hard drive spins up about three to five times... I'm not sure if it's the power supply or what. It's been doing this since I installed my 3870 and 4GB DDR2 800 RAM, and I'm not sure which it started to have problems with (I didn't install them both at the same time, about two weeks apart). Any ideas?

What PSU do you have?

A 500W Thermaltake.

What do you mean spins up? it's normal for you HDD to spin when you turn your computer on. It is just to test that the hard drive works.

When I turn my computer on, everything spins up to the max for about five seconds.

Mine spins up and then stops, and then spins up again, and then stops again, etc. etc. It does that about five times before the thing turns on.

After it does that, does you PC turn on and function regularly?
If your pc works fine and you don't get any warnings/errors then it is probably just normal

Yeah, everything's fine, lol. It prolly is normal but it never did this before I installed mah new RAM and video card. Must just need more power to start up, lol.

The only thing I can think of is when I had a 2.5" HDD do that.... had to give it another USB port (on the laptop itself) to make it happy. Maybe time for a new PSU?

Funny thing is... this is a new PSU, but 500W prolly isn't enough. I should see if I can't return it and then save up for a 1000W modular. When I do upgrade I'm thinking of getting a different mobo, and a new case. Full sized ATX ftw. I just need a new job as my old one didn't work out (too much work and stress, not enough pay or time off... and no I will not "just deal with it" or any of that crap. :P).
