I can't decide...they both sound like great cards, but I just can't decide. Does anyone have any experiances with either of these cards?

9800GTX (http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3738445&sku=E145-9802)

The 9800GTX supports tri-SLI and has slightly higher clocks.

Tri-SLI almost seems like overkill...it would be nice to be able to afford overkill though

I can't remember the source, but it was on these forums: 'It's not overkill until something dies from it.'

wouldn't it have to be killed in an especially horrible way to be overkill? Because without some extraordinary killing, it's just kill. :glasses:

i just ordered a 8800gts for 239-50 MIR from newegg, the biggest point towards the gts is I believe it uses less power due to the single pci-e connector

1. from CustomPC, June 2008:

We're not sure how the new 9800GTX card merits its GeForce 9-series status - it looks as if it should be a GeForce 9800GTS at best. With performance so close to that of the 512MB 8800GTS, it would only be worth buying if it were cheaper. Even the cheapest 9800GTX card costs around £50 more than the averagely priced 512MB 8800GTS, which is a scandal on Nvidia's part. It looks suspiciously as if the company is marketing a slightly updated 512MBGTS GPU as a next generation 9-series GPU in order to fool you into upgrading. If you have a powerful GeForce 8800-series card, stick with it for now; a 9800GTX isn't worth buying.

Looks like you sat on the right donkey by ordering the GTS :)

2. Triple SLI doesn't really work too well for gaming. It can reduce frame rates.

What did you upgrade from? So far I think I got my $250 worth out of this card.

I upgraded from a 3870, i trade and buy a lot and the 8800gts was a good price and allows me to use a fair amount of AA unlike the 3870

I think I need to put a few brighter LED's in there to highlight the mobo or something though. It's a little dark in there...
