I have a little program on my SGI O2 that displays the output of a webcam in a text window as ascii characters.

Similar to THIS (http://ascii.dyne.org/) or THIS (http://digg.com/software/Render_Video_In_ASCII_Under_Windows,_Mac_OS_X,_and _Linux).

EDIT: OH and if you search the web, there are programs that will transorm jpg's into ascii art.
