Hey guys, just got my new 3870X2 and i cant figure out where the hell this OverDrive panel is supposed to be. I cant find it in the CCC. Couldnt find a plugin or somthign to enable it.

Do you know where it is?

I think you have to enable some advanced options in catalyst to get access and I can't remember how to access it .... however ... ATI website says:

"Currently ATI Overdrive™ is supported on the ATI Radeon™ 9800 XT and ATI Radeon™ 9600 XT retail products. On the Graphics By ATI products supplied by ATI's Add In Board Partners the availability of Overdrive is at the discretion of the partner. Please refer to the website of your graphic card manufacturer for details."

This may be out of date.

Yeah i seen that too. The product box for my gfx card has it listed as an option. I cant find any crossfire options either allthough i realize this might not be available since its an X2.

As I posted in the other thread on your card the 3870X2 are having driver problems. It may be that everything is working fine in a month or two when the drivers catch up.

If it's listed on the box it has been enabled by your card manufacturer and it should (lol) be a question of enabling it in Catalyst. Sorry but I currently have an Nvidia card in my box and though I have a Radeon X850 XT PE sitting here on my desk that I rather like I can't face installing it to answer the question as to where you find the check box!

if your wanting to overclock, assuming "overdrive" means that then just get Ati tool (http://www.techpowerup.com/atitool/), works great for all cards.

ATI Tools freezes when i try to use it. I've got Riva Tuner to adjust the card settings. I use it only for the fan right now. It stay's at 25% no matter what the load is and overheats. So when i want to play a game, i use RT to crank up the fan speed.

I am so not happy with this card. Its a complete POS!! I'm getting 60FPS max in Requiem while people using a 7900 are getting 100+. It still looks really good but gets laggy when walking between arena's. My 8600 kill's this thing and costs like 50% less.

Be Warned! Stay The Hell Away From This Card!

*Until the drivers work, I would suggest.

I had CCC 8.5 but i dont think it includes drivers for the 3870 X2. At Diamond's site, there are specific drivers for the X2's. I've tried both. Ati Tools will freeze as soon as i open it no matter if CCC is open or not.

Forget new drivers, just stay away period!

I've submitted a ticket with Diamond Support asking for "The Golden Egg" (so to speak) to make this thing function properly. I also added that i want an RMA exchange or refund if there is nothing they can do to help. I knew i should have bought the 9800GTX and saved some cash in the process....

From CustomPC, June 2008:

We're not sure how the new 9800GTX card merits its GeForce 9-series status - it looks as if it should be a GeForce 9800GTS at best. With performance so close to that of the 512MB 8800GTS, it would only be worth buying if it were cheaper. Even the cheapest 9800GTX card costs around £50 more than the averagely priced 512MB 8800GTS, which is a scandal on Nvidia's part. It looks suspiciously as if the company is marketing a slightly updated 512MBGTS GPU as a next generation 9-series GPU in order to fool you into upgrading. If you have a powerful GeForce 8800-series card, stick with it for now; a 9800GTX isn't worth buying.

Just thought you'd like to read this before jumping into another hole of not-up-to-it hardware. Maybe a good brand 512MB 8800GTS rather than a 9800GTX?

I've allready made my purchase. I'm trying to RMA this card in hopes that its just this one. With all my settings turned to performance, im still only getting 70 FPS average.

Crappy customer support...

Hey there,

I'm having serious issues with my 3870 X2 graphics card. Performance is awfull while playing any 3d game. I understand there might be a fair amount of variance with this specific model however, i cannot contest to driver issues when my $100 2600XT gets better frame rates than my newly purchased $400 graphics card. I feel as if i have had my pockets picked.

Are there any hotfixes, patches, beta drivers, ect, ect. That might increase performance? If no, i'd like to RMA this card for an exchange or refund ASAP!

Thank you,
Jaims
