Although you cannot actually download anything yet, you can pledge that you’re ready to help them break the record. Over 40.000 people have already pledged, but I can imagine this number will grow significantly in the following days. You can even see how many people have pledged from each individual country on a nifty world map, as pictured below. So far, the US is in the lead, with Spain and China holding the second and third place.

All you have to do is get Firefox 3 during Download Day to help set the record for most software downloads in 24 hours, it’s that easy.

What is the current record that is to be broken?

"Mozilla is trying for a record in a new category, according to a representative of the firm. That means it doesn't have an existing mark to better. The open source browser outfit aims to secure over 1.6m downloads over 24 hours."

The Mozilla Foundation released the first beta on 19 November 2007[119], the second beta on 18 December 2007[119], the third beta on 12 February 2008, the fourth beta on 10 March 2008 and the fifth and final beta on 2 April 2008. [120] The first release candidate was released on 16 May 2008. Mozilla engineers are planning to ship a second release candidate during the first week of June 2008 and the final release by mid-June 2008.[121]

Pretty soon it would appear. ^_^

If they had any sense, they would use a bit torrent like system where everyone downloads it from each other, but I am betting that it has to be downloaded from a single place for this record. I am looking forward to this though, even though it seemed laggy (probably just my imagination) when I tried it out on ubuntu, I bet that It will be a very solid browser.

Whats he big deal w/ firefox 3? Is there something groundbreaking about it that i might have missed the memo on? Just curious. I remember firefox 2 and while it has some nice features... its not THAT much different from 1.

downloaded as pledged

I downloaded it 3 times, but all with the same IP-adress, do you think they will count for 3 downloads, or for just one?

crenn
06-18-2008, 03:39 AM
I think just one if you used the same browser!

I've downloaded it on 2 computers, one in FF, one in IE.

silverdemon
06-18-2008, 03:41 AM
it was on different computers, but all with FF2, so I guess it's just one download from me...
