I'm looking to incorporate a stripped second hand 15" TFT into a mod and am wondering, as most are 12V, if I can run it off the 12V rail, given a PSU with enough power. 3A x 12V = 36W ? no??

Technically it should be possible....

At 3A on the 12V rail, that's nothing compared to what graphics cards require. What I'd do is get a PSU that can do SLI and just not have a SLI setup, using one of the 6 pin connectors for the monitor as it is meant for high drain applications. As always, make sure the PSU can handle that load (3A on a single 12V rail).

I suppose there's only one way to find out...

If you wanna mess with those 12v rails ALWAYS remember:
be totally sure there isn't any power running through your psu. unplug it and press your power button once to use up the extra juice
I learned this the hard way... zapped my hand big time on my old cheap 480w psu
It sucked!! i couldn't feel from about 2 inches above my wrist down to my fingertips for like 30 minutes
And i thought it was only going to be really hot.. grr..

Then I guess I'm lucky. I got zapped by 120V DC twice. Once by a lightbulb socket and once by my xbox's PSU. I just felt it a little until I lifted my hand off. Sweaty hands/not wearing shoes or socks probably wouldn't help. I might just have good reflexes.
