I just got the parts today, and I've been waiting forever to do this. I disassembled the NES a long time ago, and also got the power button working with my computer (now, I just have to find it again). I don't like how, for virtually all NES casemods, people just cut a big hole in the back. I am trying to make it look just like an unmodded NES, except for the bottom, where I think that I will put all of the ports. I got a motherboard with one of the new Intel Atom processors for this one. It runs at 1.6GHz. Here's a pic of everything.

I'm still waiting for the hard drive and a parallel port card; they should come tomorrow.

Yeah, I get out of school for the summer on Friday, so I should have a fair amount of time to work on it.

I got the my 60GB hard drive and the parallel port PCI card today. I hope to at least get it running windows today. I still need to order the PicoPSU, and I need an optical drive IDE adaptor.

I also might get this (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813998001), if the card doesn't fit.

I'd like to see a little more progress before I make you a header, plus any details you can give me as to what you want it to look like might be helpful.

nevermind1534
06-13-2008, 01:57 PM
sure. I want it to look as original as possible (as in original hardware).

Okay, I got the dremel out.

But it won't do much good without the battery or charger.

Hmmm, this one (http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/forum/showpost.php?p=171710&postcount=13) would have been perfect, I'll have to think on it a while.

Well, I went to ACE hardware yesterday to get a new Dremel. I got the 400XPR, since it was nice and came with everything. Here's some pics of it on my newly sanded down sides of my server case.

I removed all of the plastic risers for the screws for the NES mobo last week. I will probably be posting pics later today, when I get home.

I just ordered the PicoPSU and the Slim CD adaptor from mini-box, and that should be all that I need to complete the build.

Look at this

I won't get my stuff from mini-box until the 30th. I've never seen anything shipped through UPS take that long. They usually get me my newegg stuff from California in two days.

This is the tracking thing now:

SUNNYVALE,
CA, US 06/24/2008 11:41 P.M. DEPARTURE SCAN
06/24/2008 9:35 P.M. ORIGIN SCAN
06/24/2008 4:07 P.M. PICKUP SCAN
US 06/24/2008 6:12 P.M. BILLING INFORMATION RECEIVED

Tracking results provided by UPS: 06/26/2008 9:27 P.M. ET

I'm getting a little worried, since there are no updates since the 24th, and the last thing on there is departure scan.

Mini-box is a good site. Your stuff will come. I've ordered from them on a couple occasions. We're all just too used to newegg.

I've never seen the adverse weather conditions on any shipping thing. The weather must have been pretty bad to delay it from being sent out..

It's the mid-west flooding. I thought the same thing until I looked at where it was.

I just checked the ups tracking information, and the delivery was rescheduled to tomorrow. UPS is really starting to piss me off with the delays.

How long did that delay it, or did you even get your package?

I just got my package. The slim CD - IDE adapter is not wanted at all. Looks like I'm going to be doing a lot of soldering. With the PicoPSU, this computer is nearly silent. I'm on it right now, and it's a ton quieter than my desktop, although the fans in that should really be replaced, because they're way too loud. The only fan currently on the NES PC is the tiny CPU fan. It's quieter than a lot of hard drives.

I'm struggling a bit with coming up with another original looking header logo in the shape of the classic nintendo. I may have to take some creative license and make something a bit off order. Did you want the title "Another NES PC" or NES PC"?

That's ok.

Just "NES PC" would probably be ok for the name.

If nevermind is not opposed, we could use the same one. You could just take my name off and put his. NES PCs are all the same in the end anyway.

I figured I should update this, at least with a pic, since there have been no updates for a while.

If you haven't noticed, I took the Dremel to the motherboard to reduce the height in the back. I powered it on when I was done for the day, and to my surprise, everything still worked great. The NES in the background is not the one that I'm using.
