This is a little game my two fellow soldiers in our ongoing battle against evolution play here at work, and I thought I would see what our members have to add. Just start with the title line and let us know what little things really get under your skin, no matter how petty.
It's my game so I'll start, with one of the best and most universal answers my cohorts have given.
You know what I hate??
Anything designed by someone who will never have to use it.
Another favorite: When I tell my DVD player to fast forward past the copyright warning and it TELLS ME NO! My VCR never did that. When I told it to fast forward, it did it. Every time.

Kinda personal, but I hate being stuck in this body with a bar in my chest. I hate not being able to do things normal people can do. The fact that I was a martial artist/athlete and now can hardly sleep without pain, nonetheless walking/running/basketball/all the things I loved and yet took for granted.
But I love the fact that I am here, and have the ability to get past all this and someday do those things once again. So it balances out.
So I guess I hate my own impatience.

Well said.
Ok, so I do have SOME compassion. For children. Just about anything or anyone else is on their own, but children are something else entirely.
In my defense, I expect no compassion either. And I would rather someone hate me with a passion that makes their blood boil than to forget me. Obviously it would be better if they liked me, but to be forgotten is never to have been at all. At least if someone hates me, when I am gone some part of me remains.
Back in the spirit of the thread, I hate people who act helpless. Not the ones who actually ARE helpless, just the ones who are too lazy to help themselves. Nope, no compassion for them either. (That probably stems from my job...)

I couldn't care less when people drive badly when it rains, that isn't really that bad.
It's the people who drive the speed limit in their four wheel drive cars on the highway when it is icy.
Just because you have four wheel drive doesn't mean that you have unlimited traction in the snow and ice! Sure, it may help you get up that hill without slipping all the way down, but you aren't going to be able to grip the road around a corner when there is a thin sheeting on one of the only substances rubber doesn't stick to very well!
That, and the greedy people who are only hurting themselves and the future. Helping yourself isn't really helping at all.

Back when I used to live in NC you'd see tons of wrecks whenever it rained... and the odd times it snowed, people really got into some serious ****. One day I got stuck doing 80 in bumper to bumper traffic during pouring rain, you couldn't see but 10ft max in front of you... and that was if you're lucky.
People won't be doing 80 for too much longer. Electric cars are going to become what you mainly see on the road... and to be more efficient you're gonna drive slower and not be in such a bigass vehicle like the ones now. I can't wait, I do not want to pay for gas.

Yes!!! When they take a perfectly good movie that should have just been left the hell alone and try to squeeze more dollars out of it. The Matrix is a fine example. As was Pirates of the Caribbean. It even happens with sequel sequels. Terminator was excellent. Terminator 2 was ALSO excellent, and tied up all the loose ends nicely. You're so right. I have the perfect example. When minimum wages went up a few years back I was sitting in my car at a local store waiting for my wife and I overheard this one woman talking way to loud on her cell phone, hate that too. She said that since minimum wage just went up that they need to raise the prices in her store. Now how the hell is raising the minimum wage suppose to help out the economy if greedy business owners just raise the prices on their items in response?
Now on to what else I hate. Just last week I took my family to Disneyland so all my examples are from this trip.
I hate people who think the world revolves around them.
I hate people who take two parking spaces or park way left/right in their spot so if you park next to them you can't open your door.
I hate people who step into the flow of walking traffic and then just stop preventing anyone else from getting by. Why don't you step to the side to tie your shoe, dig in your bag or let your friend taste whatever you're drinking or eating.
I hate people who act like they didn't see you pushing your small kid in a stroller and cut you off causing you to slow down or stop all together.
I hate people how act like they didn't see you standing in line and cut in front of you and then give you attitude when you tell them you were next.
I hate people who don't watch or care what their kid is doing.
I hate people who are lazy and throw their trash on the ground. Come on there's a trash can about every 30 feet in Disneyland.
I hate people who stand in front of little kids to see the parade or show. I'm a tall guy and I always stand in the back to let shorter people see.
I hate people who expect something in return. Whatever happened to doing something for someone just to be nice?
I hate people who brake, damage or put graffiti on stuff. All you're doing is making the experience trashy for everyone who comes after you.
I hate people who write on things saying they were there. I don't care if John was here in 2006 or who is from the Class of '08.
I hate people who wear clothes to small for their body. If you're a large man/woman/child put on clothes that fit.

............... Now how the hell is raising the minimum wage suppose to help out the economy if greedy business owners just raise the prices on their items in response?
I hate it when people don't understand basic economics and blame things on greedy people... :D
C'mon, this IS basic economics. The cost of items IS directly proportionate to the wages you pay them to make/stock/sell those items. If you pay someone more to do the job, the cost has to come from somewhere. Now the people on minimum wage (which is NEVER supposed to support anyone by design), are still basically paying the same for the item, but those people who make anything more than minimum wage are now paying more for that item to fund the increase in minimum wage.
Minimum wage is ONLY meant for students or as a job to help you through college or to get another job. That and a supplement income for seniors. It was never meant to be able to live off of.
...and I hate people give up in life and blame it on getting old... Dig a hole, fall in it and pull the dirt in after yourself already!

I reread that and it sounded harsh. Not my intent. Just trying to make light of the situation. I have some friends and relatives who own small businesses and depend on the students and sr's to fill in minimum wage positions. They do agree that the minimum wage should be raised, but it should be tied to some economic indicator that is a little more steady rather than a politician pandering for votes from the masses. Recently (in the past 5 years or so), people apply for those positions intending them to be some career stepping stone (ticket taker to popcorn server? c'mon!) to a well paid position. They know the wage when they hire, but gripe every minute of every day until they either leave or get fired.

- Constant nagging (mom's included)
- People who stop while walking without thinking they're obstructing a traffic flow, or sway left to right while walking a mall as if the whole freaking path belongs to their great grandpa.
- Drivers who drive with their eyes and legs, minus the brain especially those who stopped at the junction when they see you coming near and suddenly took the turn when you are 2 1/2 cock hair away from them
- Being asked "Does it hurt?" when people see my tattoos or what is it
- People who brag outrageously as if the whole doesnt know they're bull****ting (I just put them down in public real loud just to make sure they keep their BS mouth shut the next time they sit on the same table)
- Plastic girls who hog even dying men just for $
- Waiter/waitress who don't really wanna serve you cos you came in in shorts and t-shirts until you plunked your big fat wallet on the freakin table

- People who pay for their meals with credit cards (below 200 bucks). What is it that a working person have to owe the bank money just to have a meal, if you cant or isnt willing to fork out that amount of cash first, go McD's or BK.
- The bloody government. Hiking cigarette, diesel, & petrol price like nobody's business; which the effect of the latter causes hike in almost every product. I strongly dislike the fact that this thread has gotten twice as long as the "you know what I love" thread.
Is there a reason people prefer to hate than to love?
Creation and Destruction, look to the Human Behavior Expiraments for some psychological insight. But it all comes back to the Shadow Self, those dark feelings we get and repress for the sake of social acceptance and our own ideals of morality, which is really just a social construct in itself. It feels good to indulge those emotions because we're told constantly by everyone else, do not do it. We repress our darker desires constantly. And letting them out on occasion, in a controlled manner is healthy.
I have a friend that is reminding me at times that hate is such a strong word, that I shouldn't use it if I'm to be enlightened or whatever. And my response to that is simply this. It's all a result of striving right? That wants and negative emotions lead to striving. Be part of the world, but be not touched by it. There in lies the tragic flaw of that philosophy, how can you do that and care about anything else? It's the danger of caring about the world around you, that you open yourself to negative reactive impulses. The alternative to hate, is not compassion. But apathy...
Now back to topic
I really wish this thread had been titled Know What Really Grinds My Gears?" but oh well.
-I'm an English/Rhetoric major. And I HATE people who correct other people when they use incorrect grammar/spelling, etc in everyday speech.
-The Truth commercials, and the people that praise them. Whiney, arrogant, self-righteous maggots feeding off of the carrion of sensationalized propaganda. If it's for those people out there who smoke, you're just irritating them with more information they've decided they don't care about and don't want to hear, especially while watching a tv show. If it's for the non smokers, then it's just televised masturbation and reach arounds! "Hey, you don't smoke either? AWESOME! *high fives* We're so rad!"
I'm going to stop there for now or I'll start foaming at the mouth.

International Shipping. I want to get back to work on Frank, and I wanted to do it yesterday. Can't do a damn thing until my 3mm leds show up.
Also, I cannot stand ignorant pet owners. I had a customer today who left her dog in her car for a good 1/2 hour while she shopped. 95 degrees F outside, probably a good 130 in the car. And all she did was leave the back windows down two inches, and that's a generous estimate on my part.
Had the Store Director been in today, she would have gotten 86'd. A number of people took her plate #, so I'm sure the Animal Division of the PD is involved as well.

know what i hate?
1. beautiful girls who think they're fat and ugly and whatnot.. my girlfriend is notorious for that..
2. my computer, when it told me i can't install DX9
Indybird

I probably be back but heres a few things off the top of my head:
-When an installer or similar process doesnt include a progress bar OR if the progess bar and percentage get to 100% and it sits there for another 5 minutes.
-When people take turns in their car really slow
-When people honk their horn for any reason other than protecting themselves or someone else
-When a smoker sits down next to you in a restaurant (I know they have every right to, I still don't like it)
-People who think they are funny by yelling things out of their car window as they drive by you (no matter what you are doing)
-People who stop in the middle of a hallway and start talking to someone
-When people bring their babies into a movie; the baby will cry and it will annoy everyone. A babysitter is like $5 an hour (so thats $10 for a regular movie), and if you don't want to leave your baby with someone, thats your own decision.
-Customers at a store who think they deserve special treatment
-Customers who don't understand that an employee at a store can not bend the rules, or that an employee does not have the ability (according to the company) to do something
-People who let their small children run loose: they can break things, annoy people, or get kidnapped. Just not safe at all.
-Spammers who waste massive amounts of internet bandwidth and 99.9% their message will never be seen
-People who interrupt you in the middle of your sentence to correct your grammar or pronunciation
-Extreme believers; believing in anything too much (albeit religion, philosophies, etc..) is unhealthy for everyone
-Racists
-People who "jump on the bandwagon" before they fully realize what it is all about and then defend it until the end of time
Phew, I'm just full of negativity. I've probably got a few more, I'll be back.
I really think that telling people about the things you dislike helps ease your frustration.

That was part of the reason I started this thread. I also think it helps to know that other people hate the same things you do. That was the other part. (Nice list, by the way.)

I already got more:
-Parents who let their kids get obese; if they are 16 or younger it is not in any way their fault
-Salespeople/clerks who can't even muster up even a neutral attitude while they serve customers
-People who purposely go to church when they're not religious at all
-People/companies who, to fix a problem, remove features from a service or program or limit functionality.
-People who post their item for sale 30 or 40 times on craigslist
-People who haven't done one honest days work, and are spoiled
-People who gossip
-Companies who release games in the fall (when no one has time to play them)
-Component manufacturers who don't update drivers often enough (Razer, Creative, Abit are my experiences)
-My netgear router. It likes to tell my computer that it can't connect to the internet all the time. Tried 3 different wireless adapters, have reinstalled windows twice over the course of this problem, and have reset and restarted thousands upon thousands of times. What really gets me is when windows tells me to enable my ethernet adapters to fix my wireless
I'll be back tomorrow. For now I'm going to sleep.

I like these discussions. And I am about to make a very long list, but I am a very happy and relatively stress free person, these are mostly things that really annoy me.
I also the word you a lot in my explanations, it's not targeting anyone in specific, it's just the way I formulate my thoughts.
Also read the entire sentences or you might get the wrong idea.
1) Large groups of people who walk really slowly. Honestly, you have legs, learn to use them. At least if it's one person you can get around them, but when it's a group it's nearly impossible without walking on the road (I walk on the road a lot).
2) Emo's (especially those who don't have any real problems). Honestly people (if you can call them that), stop complaining, get off your lazy asses, and go do something positive. They make the people around them depressed with all their s***, and further, they look like idiots.
3) Slim healthy girls who think their overweight. And the media that puts that in these womens heads.
4) Fat ugly girls who think their hot and dress like sluts. I don't want to see that, it's repulsive. At least cover yourself up decently. It's the middle of a crowded city, and these people are everywhere.
5) Fat people who complain about their weight, but aren't willing to do anything about it. I don't mind overweight people who accept themselves.
6) Over-zealous mac owners who's only real argument for having a mac is the fact that there aren't viruses on that, wehn we all know that's going to change when they gain market share.
7) Mac commercials, because most of the time they're based off small issues that only a few people had, or are flat out lies to trick stupid people.
8) Stupid people who think they're smart. If you are stupid at least be willing to accept the help of those smarter than you, instead of ignorantly making things worse.
9) Religious people who (with me being an atheist) tell me I'm going to hell. Who is to say that you are right, believe in what you want to, but don't bring me down because I won't follow you.
10) People who think evolution is not a fact. It is a fact people, learn to accept it.
11) Drugs, and the weak minded people who use them. Not people who use prescription drugs to make themselves better, but the use of illegal drugs just for fun. It brings down society and only causes problems.
12) Mixed drinks. You should only drink alcohal if you like the taste of it. If you're drinking a mixed drink it means you're trying to mask the alcohals taste just so you can get it effects. It's weak and stupid.
13) Mental weakness. There are times when you do need to give in to someone else and follow what they say. But if you strongly dissagree with what someone tells you to do, stand up for yourself.
14) People who complain about violent video games when every other art median has the same violence in it. Video games are an art, let's let them do what all other art does.
15) Pointless lawsuits. The famous "sueing McDonalds for spilling coffee on yourself" one comes to mind. These lawsuits are a waste of time, resources, and money. They also bring down the economy.
16) Stupid juries who let the above mentioned lawsuits pass.
17) Negligent parents who bvlame TV and video games and whatever else for making their kids brats when everyone knows it was the parents faults. Take responsibility for your children and raise them well, don't excpect TV to do your job.
18) Spam. It's a waste of time and resources.
19) People who waste the time and resources of everyone else (ie. spammers, virus makers, people who take 6 hours to order something at a fast food joint, etc...)
20) George W. Bush and pretty much the entire republic party of the united states.
21) People who think words are bad when it's really the intentions behind them that make them bad, not the words themselves. Words can't be bad, it's the thoughts behind them that are.
22) Oversold movies, and planes, so when you walk in (having paid money for this) the place is literally completely full and you have noweher to sit.
23) Cheaters, and anyone who uses someone else.
24) The lack of social darwinisim. This world is far too overpopulated, and something needs to be done about it.
24) So many more things that if I kept going you'd never actually read any of this.
So there's a sampling of the things I hate/dislike. And I am a happy person, I could make a list of likes/loves just as long. But hate is so much more fun.

I did this to my Comp Tech teacher. She was pissed.
I hate idiot drivers who are selfish on the road.
Either do the speed limit/keep up with traffic or get out of the fast lane.
huh
you know its actually illegal to drive in the "fast lane"
the "fast" lane is actually considered the "passing" lane and everyone is supposed to drive on the outside lane alone. but of course this doesnt work so everyone piles onto the passing lane to get around the people doing the speed limit. so somehow its turned into the "I need to haul ass" lane.
most major highways were built with speed in excess of 160+mph. in mind.
Personally I guess I'd like to hate on the people in SUV's that can't drive them. You know i'm driving a K class car so it makes rediculous tight turns.
I like taking corners at realitivily high speeds when a large truck or SUV is straight up my ass.
Always and I mean ALWAYS fun to look in the rear view mirror and watch the 16 year old girl on the cell phone attempt the same turn at the same speed as i did but in a Large Ford Expedition one handed
I lol'd so hard, so hard when that little girl when sliding off into the opposing lane and up onto the grass embankment her tires were turned but she kept going forward.
So folks lesson of that day.
Don't attempt the same turns twigsoffury is making with is H+R rated tires. you'll encounter Severe Understeer.
