Does anybody know of any good free software for resizing partitions and stuff? I DL'ed partition magic and apparently its not free so the demo just blew up in my face and told me to buy the software if I actually wanted to see any results. I'm running windows in case ya need to know that.

Thanks for any input. : )

Gparted is awesome. Otherwise there's QTParted.

If you have unpartitioned space, go into control panel, Administrative Tools, Computer Management, then under Storage, Disk Management. This won't let you resize partitions, though, but you can delete them, create new ones, and change drive letters.

Sweet! I have a new HDD I haven't touched yet, lol. Yay thread surfing.

Has anyone checked the Wiki on this? If there isn't an article this would make a great one. :P (just trying to be helpful)

I should probably check when I'm done mowing the lawn.

Is GParted just for Linux or can i Run it under windows? I have no problem running the live CD but it would be easier to just run it under windows if possible. I don't have any CD'Rs off hand.

Linux only I believe. One thing though; don't download the Gparted LiveCD, download System Rescue CD. It has a ton of useful programs on it, including Gparted.

Ok, I have an old ubuntu live CD from a couple versions ago. I'll give that a shot and when i get CD-Rs ill do like Mal suggested and download the rescue CD.

I guess i should have asked this as well. If i use Gparted, will it let me repartition w/out destroying everything or will i kill my current install?

When you repartition with anything there's a chance you'll kill the install/lose data. I just repartitioned myself (adding more space to my /boot partition for Ubuntu) and now GRUB won't load, so I'm going to have to go in and fix that. Data loss is just part of the territory.

Maybe I should just wait until i can afford a new copy of windows then. If i mess it up I can't reinstall. I got a free license from school so i only get to use it once. : \

Thanks for the help though.

I think I resized some partitions when installing Ubuntu once, you could give that a shot. And if you install it you don't have to activate it until you're satisfied. ;) Perfectly legal too.
