I was just chilling out when i started to wonder if there are any online multilayer FPSs that are like action movies. Let me explain. I was thinking it would be cool to have an FPS had over the top highly stylized scenes of intense, mind blowing, gun fights. Most FPS fall in to one of a few categories. Super soldiers, Space Soldiers, Regular Soldiers, Highly Realistic Soldiers, WWII soldiers, etc... I was wondering if there is an FPS that isn't about well... soldiers but more about the kind of characters you would find in an action flick.
Anybody know of anything like this?

Well i just got done playing one!
Gunz is a game where cool things are possible. You can do those kind of backwards matrix jumps and sideways jumps, us swords to dash through the air and wear cool mysterious(ninja type) clothes. Different weapon catagories are:katana sword, daggers ,smg's, assault rifles, shotguns rocket launchers and light machine guns.
(forgot to mention it's 3rd person)

There are the Serious Sam games which are quite over the top and outlandish. Haven't played them myself, but they are quite a fun dumb-action kind of game based on what I've been told.
There's also the Max Payne series well known for its film noir setting and story and cinematic action. Its third person and worth a look.
Last one I can think of is John Woo's Stranglehold which has you doing all kinds of crazy stuff like sliding down stair banisters and leaping onto trolleys while firing dual pistols. Its based on the John Woo film Hard Bolied, so that should give you an indication right there. I'd recommend that game as probably the best choice here to start with.

I play gunz sometimes, and I even get over 100 FPS on my 7300LE.

I would try:
Crysis (PC)
Max Payne 1+2 (PC)
CoD4 (Most cinematic game I have ever played)

I've been thinking that outlandish games are the best... realistic enough to be fun but not like living life, lol. I know there's a Half Life mod called The Specialists (which has been mentioned in another thread) that is like this if you want to check it out. Painkiller looks like another good series for crazy **** going on.

Yeah Max Payne definately has the movie feel and the characters/story line aren't your typical soldier/combat character. I think you can shift to First person if you want, although the bullet time isn't quite as dramatic that way.
CoD4 is a very cinematic title, it is war based, but it feels about the most like being in a movie of any game that comes to mind.

CoD4 looked pretty cool but they haven't dropped it to a reasonable price yet, lol.
That Penny Arcade game is like playing through a comic book if you'd be interested in that. I played through the whole thing, it is hysterical.
