I bought a small extender cable, mostly for splicing, for a PSU (is a 6" 4-pin molex), and it has two black, a red and an orange wire.

Does anyone know what these are? Are the red and first black the 12V pos/neg and the orange and 2nd black 5V pos/neg?

Or am I way off, or what?

Thanks.

normally , it's red and the black next to it is the 5V rail the yellow /orange and black next to it is the 12V rail (this is true for a Molex, HDD power cable). If it's an extender for the P4 12V it's different.

Hope this helps,

The grounds don't matter they are all are common. Yea older PSUs and cables are either faded yellow which looks orange, but I've seen them use true orange wire.

I've also seen REAL old Molex housings, and they were solid white and made from a ceramic-like material.

To answer your question:
pin #4 & #3 (red & black) are 5V
pin #2 & #1 (black & yellow/orange) are 12V

Thanks. I had forgotten that I had bought a voltimeter, and I tested it out for myself. Thanks though.
