View Full Version : Adding memory to vista problems

So i have 2x1 gb sticks now that run fine but when i try to add 2x2gig sticks either will blue screen me. i used to have them all in there with 64 bit xp and all was well. now im getting no love from vista. any takers?

Make sure SP1 is installed.

Have you adjusted the memory settings in your bios? Set the proper timmings, voltage, and frequency and all should be fine.

also try putting the larger sticks in the first banks. not sure what board you have, but sometimes that may work.

also, have you tried just the 2x2? they may be bad.

i would try to just swap them around until you find something that works. if you can take the new ram out and it boots, then it might point to the new ram being bad. or, if you can boot with just the new ram, then you may have a diff issue.

remember that some motherboards have dual channel ram setups (the ram slots are different colors for a reason) not sure if thats the problem, but i think if the RAM is not paired then it wont work in dual channel properly.

vista has a bug in it that you have to download for using more than 2gb ram. Follow the steps here, and you should be good.
