with the usual startup stuff

what are you doing with a pentium 4 and a 8800gt together? and mixed with a 14" monitor xD that makes no sence at ALL :P

Just what I picked up last year. Now, I wish I saw the Pentium D for $10 or $20 more. I have a 17 inch CRT that I have to get out, but I really want a nice new big LCD monitor. It's a long story how I got the P4. It happened with a few mistakes, but everything ended up working out well. I also need to save up for one of those eight-core CPUs when those are released for desktop boards in spring '09

So far I've yet to get the program running properly on my desktop...

EDIT:

http://www.planetsoft.org/

This utility is Windows Boot timer. Simply double click on the executable & upon restart, it will display the time taken by your computer to load windows. It does not take into effect the time taken to go through BIOS or BIOS bootup password. It takes the time from the instant BIOS starts loading Windows.

Currently this utility is compatible with Windows NT, Windows XP and Windows XP 64 bit Edition

Updates for future: Compatibility with Microsoft Vista !!

Hmmm.... strange, all I know is it said it ran... but after many restarts (yes I let the program restart for me), nothing showed up.

I installed XP SP3 and it added 20 seconds to my boot time.:(

@ pope: it think the 32 sec is because i boot from the 10000 rpm raptor drive and I have no stuff to load but Xp pro SP2. but still cool to have a fast starting machine. if my girl wants to look something up on the net. and no pc's are on she always boots that game rig... its quick. the fun part is that i switch my screen on separated from the rig and most of the time i did not realize its off and when I turn it on the PC is already booted and ready for use.

hmm... i'll have to try that when i get home. on my AMD, i was getting about 15-20 seconds. of course i hit msconfig and had everything nonessential turned off and no boot screen. but with my new mobo, it brings up the stupid biostar t-force logo. i'll have to figure out how to turn that off.

to TGS: have you tried booting with pre-SP1 XP Pro? i think that was the fastest loading one. i know when i installed SP2 on my old Thinkpad, it killed my load times (with SP3 its at about 2min boot right now)

TheGreatSatan

It's never worth down-grading to SP1. I remember back with Windows 2000, I'd have to wait a good 3 minutes....

nevermind1534
08-22-2008, 04:21 PM
And then, without SP1, you're locked out of all of the new updates released after SP2

XcOM
08-22-2008, 04:39 PM
updates what are these updates you speek of,

oh them things you can get else where in a sort of unnoffical service packs,

anyway, my system with XP pro sp3 is 58.2 seconds :'(

nevermind1534
08-22-2008, 06:47 PM
Microsoft won't give you anything new, such as the bug fixes, security updates, IE7, if you don't have at least SP1.

i know. my thinkpad A20m (533mhz CPU, 128mb RAM) takes forever to load, and SP2 just made it slower, but SP3 sped it up some.

after taking off the log on screen, the thinkpad gets 67.887s loading absolutely nothing.

my pc gets 48.343s after POST, Hardware Monitor, then loading Alienware Dock, FreeRAM, and Spybot-SD Resident

You should upgrade the ram, if you can.

meh, i only use it for limewire, doom95, and the occasional internet and IM. now that i have my desktop back, it'll probably continue to collect dust.
