Hey,
Im upgrading my PC and want to get a new motherboard, processor and ram. i have got £150 - £200 to spend. i would like to have 2gb of ram. i also need a processor cooler.
Does anyone have any ideas of which will components work well together within this budget.
Thanks
Joe
£200 is about $400 US right? Check this out:
Mobo - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128072

RAM - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820141300
Total if you get 4 gigs of RAM, $283.96 (US).

Thanks for that. i will have a look at that setup plus any others people can help with and what i think could be the best.
I would have 4gigs of ram if ubuntu can use it all but im not sure on this.
Yes £200 is roughly $400.
Unfortunately newegg dont deliver to the uk though so i cant get the components off them. i am going to mainly use Dabs.com (www.dabs.com) as they seem to be cheap on most things and have a good selection of stuff, but obviously if i can get better components off other UK websites then i will do.
thanks for your help and any other suggestions are greatly appreciated.

I think you'll be a-ok as long as you use a 64 bit build of Ubuntu. A 32 bit version won't recognize 4GBs, for the same reasons as a 32 bit version of Windows won't handle it.

Do you specifically want an Intel based system or AMD?
You can probably get an AMD one for less:

Total: 141.49 Pounds
That's 2.6 GHz dual core with 2Gb of ram, which should be more than enough for a linux based system.

Thanks for those. I dont really mind whether i go for AMD or Intel. im leaning towards Intel just because that is what i have always used, but if people think AMD has a better performance to cost ratio then im all for it.
Eventually when i have enough money i want to get a decent graphics card, spending around £150, so i need the system to be compatible with this.
Thanks.

Pretty much any mobo and system will work with any video card provided their mobo has a PCI-E bus, so I wouldn't worry too much about that.

I like Intel's performance, but recently, for all of the budget PCs that I build, I have been using AMD.
