hay guys im working on a project for a friend and he wants to know what is out there as a industrial AP

also if there are any AP's that will work as a mesh network. because that would be a bonus for him.

range wise 500 feet with an omni antenna would be a good distance but further would be better

and a $300 budget but up to $500

Canopy 5200SM (http://cgi.ebay.com/Motorola-Canopy-5200SM-Subscriber-Module_W0QQitemZ230267843276QQihZ013QQcategoryZ449 96QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem) on ebay, currently @ $62, and bidding ends tomorrow.

Signaling Rate 10 Mbps Typical LOS Range 2 mi (3.2 km) Typical Aggregate Useful Throughput 3-4 Mbps. This is directional though, 60 degree spread.

Most AP's can be used in a mesh, you want to enable Ad-hoc mode, rather than infrastructure. If you are talking line of sight for 500 feet, there's loads of options. If you are talking about passing through walls and such, then you are going to need a fairly high gain antenna, probably a 14dbi or better.

Dlink makes some 8dbi antennas (omni) (ftp://ftp10.dlink.com/pdfs/products/ANT24-0700/ANT24-0700_ds.pdf) that will connect to pretty much any of their gear with an SMA connector.

Also, does it need to be indoor or outdoor?

LOL.. thanks J-roc! :D

I'm actually lucky to have a pretty decent business relationship with one of the ISP's here in town, who specializes in wireless for remote locations. I get to see all their new hardware and stuff, and we swap tips on things too. They even gave me a couple of directional (60 degree) 16dbi panels, with regular SMA connectors on them so I could use them with a couple of cheapo routers to link my house to a friends house!

I managed to get almost 3.5km out of them so far, and that was only testing! (@ 24mbps!) If I mount them permanently, and actually aim them more carefully, I should be able to get them up to full speed (54mbps).
