I was just wondering if any one here was in the Air Force. Ive always loved planes to the max. For the longest time I have put the dream of being a pilot behind me because I didn't think I could do it. (I have trouble in school.) And I know you have to get all A's in school.
Any ways any one here in the Air Force? I would love to chat with you on MSN or Yahoo if its alright to you.

How's your eyesight? If it isn't perfect or correctable by surgery, chances are they won't let you be a pilot.
Hate to burst your bubble, but I considered this option around the time I was a junior in high school. Sadly, I couldn't pass the physical exam due to dependence on prescription medication.

Air Force Pilot Requirements:
[_]You are perfect
...that sounds about right... Dx
my dad failed because of eyesight. He had like, a tiny problem. But hey, standards are standards.

The US Navy has THE best pilots in the world. Just ask any Air Force pilot to land that fighter jet on a moving postage stamp.
But yes, they will disqualify you for the most minor things (minor it may seem). It is way easier to get your private pilots license and depending on where you live, you could get your first certification for ~$3000.

Train train train...
Or clean, repair, preventative maintenance, shine, boot kiss.
hehe, Guess that is true of all branches. When I got out of the Navy, I had 3 career paths;
Electronic technician
Janitor
Painter
I had more OJT for the last 2.
Oh ok... so its basically you only really get to "work" when there's war?

no, you're always working.
Depends on what.
I'm sure they keep their pilots sharp with training exercises and whatnot.
But think about it, if there's no need for aerial support, then of course there's no combat missions to be flown. I think it's safe to assume that pretty much any military career path short of foot soldier sits around training, cleaning, maintaining, and training some more most of the time, even during war.
Our military is so stupidly immense (stupidly immense as in really big, not as in it's stupid how big it is) that I bet most people spend their time doing menial tasks. Just kind of how it is, I guess.
That's assuming you go into a combat field, and since you want to be a pilot, that qualifies.
Other jobs (intelligence, electronics, etc) probably do their field's work all year round. My mom was a GEMD LPO in the Navy (E-5 iirc) and was always doing electronics work on something.

My dad spent 20 years in the Air Force as a Security Police Officer. The way he put it was basically he was a rent a cop with better pay and bigger guns. But he got to guard mushrooms :D . it is true about the 20/20 vision for piloting but I think years ago (cause I asked with my eyesight) if you got your private pilots licence then you could qualify to fly in the service. Only officers get to fly though so you need to get college under your belt. I have a friend who went Air guard for something to do with computers I could always ask what he's doing. There are a bunch of jobs in there to do with technology of all sorts. With my ASVAP scores I could of done anything from Grease Monkey to working in the labs with missle and plane guidance systems. I know a few things from doing my research to join but never did I might be able to answer some questions for you. Or I can ask my dad, he'd know.

Mushroom guard, eh? cool. My mom was an alarm technician for a while in Alaska when she was pregnant with me. Apparently she protected something important... but her job was one of the volunteer ones in the military where you need really high clearance and you go in with a partner, and if you fail to do your job your partner will shoot you. Serious business, that.
16 years after the base closed and she's still not allowed to tell anybody what was there.

We were stationed at F.E.Warren in Cheyenne, WY for the last of his service so I got to see a lot of nukes come onto the base and head out the where he worked. I sure there are thing he saw that he couldn't tell even us. My mom was in too but got out before I was born to be a stay at home mom.
