Being a Transformers fan from way back, I was really excited when the new Transformers Movie came out not long ago. Needless to say, watching it made me feel nostalgic enough to spark inspiration for my new computer system. My new project, The Allspark PC
I'll be using this is my ref model

I plan on making the cube itself out of clear acrylic and etch the astrological designs into it with a dremel. Wish me luck on this one! It will be my first REAL mod and for sure the first time I exposed my work to the public  I'll be starting this as soon as my sheets of Acrylic arrive. Till then, AUTOBOTS... ROLL OUT!

Hi. It would be a great idea to make this case with as many moving parts as possible since it will have transformers theme. For example you could incorporate touchless sensors to open a tray. That would trigger the actuator which could lift a cd-rom through the top of the case facing backwards and then start opening the tray at the same time as turning to face the correct way. That's just a small idea. I you have any questions about execution write me. I have experience building custom servo systems and doing overall automatization and sequencing.

that would be wonderful! but to be honest if I tried anything like that I would probably blow myself up. :wacky: I would love to implement some fun things like that though! Any and all suggestions/assistance is very welcome!

This is great, two all spark mods going at the same time.
Just be sure to do something completely original with it so that it's different from projectalice's.

HA! It didn't click for me, either...I clicked the link and said, "Hmm, he's got pictures now...wait, first mod? I thought it was someone I'd seen around before..."
Well, now I know. Don't worry about it, bud - make it your own!

Well my big box of goodies came last in last night along with my sheets of acrylic. After I opened it all up and excitedly rolled around in the pile of switches, LEDs and Cold Cathodes for a few minutes, I started preparing for contruction to begin.
My conundrum now is the base  . I'm not certain on the look for that.
Pics to come soon.

UPDATE TIME!
Well I got bored waiting for the rest of my deliveries to arrive ( drool ) so I started to cannabalize some old PC Cases for some items I know I'll need for this project. I will need a mobo tray, drive cages, 5.25 racks etc etc.

Then my Acrylic sheets arrived, and even though I was not sure about how I was going to fashion the base of the unit quite yet, I was just too itchy to do some work on this to let those poor plastic sheets just lay there. So I contructed the cube portion of the mod.

how thick are those sheets? Is there any way you can CNC those things. You could CNC the design onto the cube and paint parts while the transparent bits could let the lite through.
heheheh
