I'm looking for brass gears of various sizes and teeth count, as are used in so many steampunk mods I've seen, does anyone have any idea where to find them to order? I've strained through Yahoo and that other G-word search engine, and have found a few places but the variety is extremely limited. I've looked through the TBCS wiki to no avail. ??

You could try http://www.servocity.com/ they have some different sizes of gears. I don't think they have any brass ones though. but they do have aluminum.

I doubt many places have brass, there's stronger and lighter materials.
You could always paint aluminum gears, though.

I thought about the paint option but was afraid it would look bad after the paint started to wear off on the contact areas. I've considered using steel and heating it with a torch to get the bluing effect, might have to go that way, sure is a wider selection available.

If you can't find it here (http://www.mcmaster.com/), then it doesn't exist in time and space.

If its for decoration, visit a local clock repair shop and ask if they have any gears that you can buy. Tell them its for an art project and be willing to pay; most time they let you have them for free with in reason.
If you can't do this, watch ebay for lots of gears that come up from time to time; search on brass gears
