Yooooo dudes.

Anyone know how to change the default yellow icon for folders in XP?

I can get the 'File Folders' done, but not the 'Folders'.

Using the 'Folder options' > 'File types' dialog, the option to change the icon is greyed out....

There must be a work around for this somewhere, or am I missing something simple?

I tried editing it in C++ 4.0, but I think it changed back right away. It's in either explorer.exe, or win32shell

Like this?

1. To start Windows Explorer, choose Start, Programs, Accessories, and Windows Explorer.
2. Click to highlight the icon of the folder whose picture you would like to change.
3. Right click the folder and select Properties, and then click the Customize Tab.
4. Click on the Choose Picture button in the Folder pictures area of the Properties Window. Windows will now prompt you to select a picture to use. Navigate to the picture, and then click Open.

Thanks for the replies.

I can change the appearance of individual folders, that's not the problem, I seem to have explained myself badly :(

What I was actualy looking for was a way to replace the .ico file that is used for the yellow folders to make the change globally.

I just hate yellow folders.

I've also found out about the colour label, but again, that's for individual folders.

If you want it changed bad enough, i found this hack via Google. I have no clue how well this works, and i have not tried it. Try it at your own risk. http://www.winmatrix.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=17739

You can change taskbar icons also.
Usefull if you have a little red "X" done there.

Can't beat a bit of OS hacking.

I'll break out reshack and have a pop at this today.

Changing taskbar icons... hmmm..... something else I can break.....
