Hey Guys :) it's been a while since i posted in a modding forum. I hope you all have been well.

Been lurking the modding forums for a while now and have gotten the urge to do a quick mod.

The best way to get back into the swing of things is to start posting :)

HP-6 will pretty much be all the same idea's from previous HP's with new twists.

The Front this time will be similar to HP3-MEGA but the MEGA Blow hole will cut split and moved to the sides. Large Race Car/Jet type Side Vents will be Grafted to the side panels. A Wrap over clear side/top window will be added Benny style. A Rear spoiler, back panels and a cylon type modded front panel and Vertical top opening Cdrom.

Internals will have a split cavity with a bottem mounted MB and psu,
An internal 7" LCD which will be viewed thru the top window and maybe some watercooling :)

A new Alloy chassis is made for this mod, this will keep weight down add extra strenght and help accomodate the 2 New custom front box vents.

The original Side panel locating holes are copied accross

Side panel is roughly marked out with the design.

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/HP-6/IMG_3686.jpg

The front and side are fitted for a qik looksee.

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/HP-6/IMG_3823.jpg

Plex is bent to shape added and roughly sanded back to sit flush.

The orignal idea was to start the Vent mods with craftwood.....

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/HP-6/IMG_3712.jpg

This was very quickly dropped in favour of my favourite modding material :)

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/HP-6/IMG_3860.jpg

The plex is scored heated and bent to shape.

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/HP-6/IMG_3864.jpg

Sanding the Vent helps to get a better idea shape wise.

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/HP-6/IMG_3875.jpg

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Side Vent looks kinda boring, too much flat area.... some SuperCheep Auto accessories items come in handy.

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/HP-6/IMG_3939.jpg

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/HP-6/IMG_3942.jpg

The Vents are cut up and re-glued

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/HP-6/IMG_3901.jpg

Then flush mount glued into the Vent.

Just like the other HP's next is to fill in the open area on the front penal where the old cdrom etc used to sit.

After a ruff sand a bit of deeper grooving is done to help the bondo to stick.

Same done to the side panel

The left over piece from the cutaway is re-used it will be shortened to become the mould for the top window and lengthened as shown to become the mould for the rear spoiler/wing.

A quicky wing is cut just to see if the shape fits in.

Sometimes when I browse his older works, he got me wondering if he can see through walls. Cos his vision in modding is like just taking a glance at any case, process up the image in nano seconds in the brain, and voila... the full 3d image of the completed mod in his head. Scary

You guys are awsome  TY all so much for the great replys :)

Updates will slow for now soz, Just a few hours each sunday to spare.

Also looking forward to spending time soon catching and posting in all your worklogs aswell :)

A quicky update.

Pretty keen to get internals underway. I had a bunch of offcut white plex hanging around and decided it would be good enuf a choice to do a demo of this color and see if it's to my likings. I've never thought of white as a suitable inside color for my mods, but with the split view illusion, white just might work! Either way it's good to do a mock up and see if the whole section split will work.

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/HP-6/IMG_4094.jpg

The next few shots show the placement of the internal hardware.

Mainboard will be a small form factor and be mounted on the floor of the case.

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/HP-6/IMG_4116.jpg

CDROM will be flush mounted @ the front so the cd will eject upward thru the roof of the case

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/HP-6/IMG_4117.jpg

HDD will be nicely tucked away in the frame section @ the fron of the case behind a dummy panel.

To get streight lines i'm scoring the plex with a stanley knife then snapping it over some alloy angle. I'ts not 100% but with a ruff block sand its pretty close.

This is only to get a "looksee" and is not final. So no need to show all the heat and bending bits.

The new box section will add some structural strenght back into the case once the top sections are cut from the f rame for the wrap over window.

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/HP-6/IMG_4170.jpg

As y'all can see the MB will sit below

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/HP-6/IMG_4151.jpg

The section you see now will have a 7" LCD mounted into the sloped back part.

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/HP-6/IMG_4147.jpg

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/HP-6/IMG_4169.jpg

The smaller window below will have a back lit logo or allow View to the MB area.

I have a feeling it fits snugly enough in the 'L' channel for the frame to act as a heatsink for the HDD.

Drum Thumper
08-04-2008, 04:24 PM

All the alu pieces are joined so the heat will disperse. Plus the air movement in and around the case, it should be fine.

Def...
Going to do my best to not creep you out... As someone who built several of my favorite mods *ever*, then dropping off the planet, I was worried to say the least that you may have done too much, too fast, and burned yourself out.

To see a front page linking to a new project, being built one none other than you... well, my heart skipped a beat!

I have honestly learned an insane ammount from your builds. I love the details and the creativity. This one is shaping up to be a sweet deal, just like all the others.

I am extatic that you are back in the swing, even if it is for a quick build (as you would call it), and I will be watching this vision unfold as only you can build it.

Welcome back man.... welcome back. You have been missed.

Defyant, I think it was you that got me into this site. I like the other mods on this site, but yours made me sign up to TBCS and start designing my case in sketchup.

Love the idea with the side vent and the spoiler. Have you decided on a colour scheme yet? Maybe you should put some cold cathodes or LEDs under the white plexi. Red would look awesome.

He is one of the true pioneers, I have learned SO much from watching him build. I hope someday to even have a tenth of the patience and execution that he pulls off on a regular basis.

However, I can TOTALLY commiserate with him on the demands of real life and the lags in updates. I am just now getting my modding legs back under me after taking extended leave. For the type of work he does, and how well it is received, amplified by *global* expectations of an audience hanging on your every post... that has got to be pressure that makes the job even more daunting.

I look forward to the next installment on this, and I hope that you come in recharged and healthy.

Take care friend, we'll be here when you get back.
