hey guys

im looking at a certain design of mine, and i need some help.

im looking to have a "self opening drawer" at the push of a putton, and then close with another button. im also looking to have a lid to open and close the same way (push of a button)

how would i go about this on a low budget?

cheers

You could probably use the track and motor form a old cdrom drive, or dvdplayer.
And replace the button with a larger one.

I suppose you could get a hobby motor (http://www.hobbyengineering.com/SectionM.html) with forward and reverse, and either run some braided wire (http://www.govart.com/hardware_wire_A.html) through "channels" or a miniature pulley (http://images.google.com/images?hl=en&resnum=0&q=miniature%20pulley&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&tab=wi). . or an arm on the end of the motor.
that contacts a modified angled bracket (http://images.google.com/images?um=1&hl=en&sa=X&oi=spell&resnum=0&ct=result&cd=1&q=angle+bracket&spell=1).

There are simply to many variables for me to recommend any specific device for these purposes.
What is the weight of the lid? What are the dimensions? What is the desired radius you are wishing to obtain? Ect. .

hmm i like the sound of the cd rom drive, scrap the lid idea, more looking at a "drawer" to be pushed out sideways, i was thinking having it on really easy glide rails and using an electric motor (with a pinion, then having teeth on the drawer) to push it out and pull it back in

Yea I see what your saying. . I think. . a "wwwww" track with a worm gear on a motor?
I found this illustration. It may help you to dream something up. Here (http://img146.imageshack.us/my.php?image=foldoutoptionsim8.jpg)

that is sheer brilliance,

no only thing is would that make something pivot? or do i need to make it curved to do that?

to explain better here is a pic - the circle is the connected part and that circle will remain in the same place
