Hey everyone.
I just upgrafed to a p4 3.0ghz, 1gb pc3200 ram, etc. etc.
But one thing is holding me back - my graphics card!
I currently have a radeon 9100.
I want to be able to play the best games on reasonably good graphics, but cannot afford to spend over 200 UK pounds on it. (thats $340)
Oh and it needs to be X8 AGP
Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease help me with this, as I realy cannot work out what is better than what!
Also, I realy would prefer to order from www.dabs.com if possible as I have had very good service with them recently!
Thanks a lot
H

well the company shipping it said that is will be coming out in December, but also, Nvidia is going to ship the 6800GS in AGP form. If you dont know, the 6800GS is equal to a 6800GT, but it has less pipes, but the higher clock speed makes up for that. And its 100USD cheaper than a gt.

I wish they would release a 7800GT or 7800Gs in AGP form.

Don't you mean a x1800xl in AGP as the x1800xl has already been released!!!!!

it appears the x1800xl will remain pci-e for now
http://theinquirer.net/?article=27780

if i was you, i would get a pci-e mobo for like 100USD and then buy the 6800gs in pi-e version. That way your future proofed.

I realy want to stick with my mobo as Ive only just got it, it would be a bit of a waste to go spending money on something that i already have :P
So what do people recomend? budget= 200 pounds, from www.dabs.com

Well, I came home from school today and was greeted by my graphics card squeeling...
yes, actualy squeeling. it sounded like a cat being tortured!
I had had enough, and decided that saving money was boring!
I spent out on a Gigabyte Geforce 6600GT 128mb AGP DVI-I VIVO from www.dabs.com: £121

I have read a few reviews on the card and the only problems I may have are power and heat. Heat shouldn't be a problem as my air cooling is working niceley, if it is i will just stick a fan on the card (it's a fanless heatpipe card)
and if I cant power it (350w psu) I will just run another psu for the time being:P

Does anyone know of any other problems I might run into? I don't have ANY experience in this area!
Cheers
H
Thanks a lot!

haha yeah you caught me :D twas just me being stupid!

Anyway, I received the card today! It's AWESOME. Seriously, it works totaly fine on my 350w psu and runs all my games nicely at high settings.
I also decided to hook up another monitor, and it has been SO nice. Using 2 moniters, horizintaly spanned desktop! It's SO cool to be able to have photoshop in one screen and IE in the other and just drag the photos across from the net :D
Sitting infront of 2 moniters makes you feel important as well haha!
I highly recomend this card to anyone who's looking for performance at a budgit!
Peace

my 9800XT would proboly be going for about $200 if ATI didn't discontinue them. I would go with an X700 if possible, or X700 Pro, they are really almost the same. Plus mine can still pump out the graphics for most newer games at the top settings, I just need to get a new heatsink.
